2000 Pontiac SSEi Oil Pressure Gauge Problem

The oil presure gauge on my 2000 Pontiac SSEi is maxed out at 80 psi and stays there. Car runs ok. Is it possible the sending unit is bad? If so, does the needle default to zero or max? Has anyone had their oil pressure sending unit go bad?
Thanks,
Bob

Thanks, I will go out and buy one today. Hopefully the sending unit is in a location I can reach without taking apart everything.

The sending unit will be above the oil filter housing( on top usually ) and will be locate behind the area of the PS pump

Re: 2000 Pontiac SSEi Oil Pressure Gauge Problem

A huge thanks to everyone for the help. I replaced it and everyting is working again. Now if I can olny figure out why my "brakes", "Trac Off" and "Anti-Lock" lights are all lit up. I replaced my rear brakes which were bad but the lights are still on. The dash is lit up like a Christmas tree.
Thanks,
Bob

FOr your lights being on, look for a broken wire on the front abs wires. that is where i found the problem on a 02 buick.
