P0404 EGR replacement

I have a 2006 Grand Cara. SXT. The cel came on last night reading P40404(egr perf.). I priced out a new EGR valve for $79.99. In looking at the part online it looks pretty straightforward. 2 bolts on top of engine, and 4 bolts on the bottom of the valve. Is this a pretty easy do it yourself project? A little background, I can change my oil and have never done a project like this before but it looks pretty straightforward. Thanks

Re: P0404 EGR replacement

I would suggest cleaning and inspecting before buying new. Clear the codes and see what happens then gor from there.

Re: P0404 EGR replacement

I changed the EGR valve today. I took the old one off and it was very black on the inside and outside. I put the new one in, reset the code and the light has stayed off. Hopefully that will fix it. It took about 45 minutes all together. If you do this, make sure you have a swivel socket and an extension on it as one bolt is kind of hard to get to with a regular socket or wrench.
