Power Loss

One morning when leaving my house i was backing out of the driveway when i forgot something, so i put the car in park, hopped out while the car was still running, put the trash bins on the street and got back into my car.

after backing out i switched into drive and when i hit the gas my car barely moved, as if the emergency brake was on, so i pulled over and when i looked down to see if the E-brake was on i noticed that the light that tells you what gear your in was on for every gear.

I then turned the car off and when i turned it back on the car worked fine. I suspect a possible transmission glitch or something but i recently took my catera into aamco to re-build half of the transmission so i'm at a loss, any ideas?
