2002 explorer won't shift past 1st

Hello everyone...
I was driving today and I noticed my car started to rev really high (like it didn't want to shift), so I pulled over and turned it off and back on again, and when I put it into drive or reverse it will idle and move slowly, but it won't go any faster... When I give it gas it just revs and the RPM gets really high.

If I put it into 1st, 2nd, or 3rd manually it engages and will go, however, drive and reverse don't do anything except idle.

If I'm going above 35 I can switch it from 3rd to drive, and it will go fine until I slow down - then it won't go back up again and just revs.

The car is a 2002 Ford Explorer. The transmission never seemed bad (until all of this happened). The only thing I can think that would have caused it is the fact that the road I was driving on was very bumpy, and something jarred lose. I did notice the "overdrive" light was flickering on and off at times (after this happened).

Any ideas on what is causing this are very very appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this and reply.

Since your thread is specific to your Ford Explorer, I've moved your thread to the Explorer forum.
