03 grand cherokee wont shift into last gear

When I get on the highway the transmission only goes up to 3rd gear. What can I do to fix it. When I'm in the city it still only goes up to 3rd gear.

Re: 03 grand cherokee wont shift into last gear

Dude, I would check the trans fluid. The word on the street is that Jeeps love nice clean fluids in the trans. so it is well worth it to do a flush too and completly change out the fluids. I like to go a bit crazy with changing fluids, you can't be too good to your ride. Thats all I can suggest Bro. DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT!!!!!!!!

CPS? Possibly. It can cause shifting issues, usually between 2-3 in my experience.

I think you mean the TPS. A bad CPS would result in no start or engine cut off problem, not a wonky shifting.

Do you not have a CEL on? Have you pulled any codes?

Please note, this is not the Grand Cherokee forum. Our experience may be limited (mine certainly is).

Oops, I should have moved this before....moved now.

Over filling the trans can cause issues, but I'm not sure about the 3-4 shift.

Re: 03 grand cherokee wont shift into last gear

i fixed the problem. it was the throttle positioning sensor. when i put it on the multimeter it didnt test good at all. it was to read .1-.5 gradually as i actuated the throttle. it stayed open. so i replaced it and shu-bam! runs good again.praise God! and thanks to all who helped.
