Different transmission series for 2000 GTP?

So I was checking out a car on Craigslist today and saw a 2000 GTP with 120k miles. The post said it had tranny issues. I called and she said that it won't drive forward but it will in reverse. She said she can't find a tranny for it that will work bc of two different series with different bolt patterns produced for that year. Anyone heard of this before?

Nope. Sounds like she may be thinking of the 97 model year where some GP's came with 4t60e's and some came with 4t65e's, but all 2000's have 4t65e's (-hd if its the GTP).

Re: Different transmission series for 2000 GTP?

Yeah thats what I thought (I have the 97GTP). But any clue as to what the problem could be?
-The engine starts
-The shifter moves
-reverse still works
-the car barely crawls forward
-she said it has a 4in!!??!! catback
-aftermarket cam
-it looks like a 3.2 pulley
-Bosch Iridiums
-ghetto intake

I am thinking that her torque converter was destroyed by the aftermarket cam and lack of supporting mods(lifters, retainers, timing chain, etc). But I have also heard of the BTSI, PCM, and cable that runs from the shifter to the tranny being possible problems. She bought it from someone else so the info is limited. What do you guys think?

Re: Different transmission series for 2000 GTP?

I think one of the clutch packs is destroyed that engages 1st gear since reverse works the general power "path" is sound.

However: i'd simply plan on getting a reman transmission and swapping if it was me.
