Ford F250 coil problems

I got a 1980 F250, ive bought new coils a couple times and the engine will start and run for a little while then itll burn out..........what should i do?

the fords in that era use a coil with a resistor in it or possibly a ballast resistor in series before the coil. or a resistor wire from the ignition. chec your haynes manual. it will save you money in the long run. toivo
