ABS problem? brakes suck when stopping

2000 silverado 5.3 4x4 , ~185K

I searched but didn't find an answer.

My brake line blew this past winter. Being the middle of winter, I had the garage replace the two rear lines, they also replaced from the M/C to the ABS controller.

The brakes worked fine for months until now.
When almost to a stop the ABS enables and i can't press the pedal down anymore.

I've almost hit a few things already and i'm starting to get nervous.
I read a recall on these but didn't get any answers.

What can I do?

What can I do?

first make sure the front wheel hub bearings are good ...jack up front wheels off the ground , rotate tires with the palms of your hand on the side wall...if you can feel vibs/ruffness the bearing is bad ...remove the speed sensor in the hub the grease should be blue not rusted...if rusted this is for sure a bad bearing...

the other problem may be simply cleaning the sensor mounting hole seating surface , using a file ,,,,file this down to a clean flat surface then install sensor. rotate the hub and spin with your hand as fast as you can it should read 450 MV AC ...this is the correct voltage that will cause no problems . do both sides ...this was a recall on these vehicles ...less than 5 MPH the ABS comes on vehicle won't stop !

been there done that ..coat the sensor with a good mineral spirts undercoater to prevent future failures ..

At 185k prob due for new bearings, $200/ea at the zone. Im replacing both the fronts on mine when I free up some time.

interesting, i just did my drivers wheel bearing about 3 months ago. I checked the other side at the time but it had no play.
I'll check them both again and clean the sensors if necessary.

You are talking about the sensor at the wheel bearing, correct?

follow the method I described in the prior posting ..the voltage out of the sensor must be above the 300mv a/c or you get this issue you have ...

if the sensor output is 450 mv ac this is correct and is what you should get ...once again this recall issue was caused by rust so the surface that the sensor sets on must be cleaned to shinny metal then after installing the sensor coat this area well with a undercoating compound..

there is no guessing here also you will get into an accident if this is not corrected...

Another quick question before I get into this tomorrow. Do the Speed sensors just pull out from the wheel bearing? (to clean them)

I thought they were molded in, but I'm going from memory.

held in by one allen head machine screw...then spray with wd-40 and rotate gently as you pull out ...I used a pair of pliers ....

how did you make out with the hub's ?

I just got a hub from 1A Auto , 90.00 ea made in taiwan 2yr warrantee. looks very good ,,got over 500mv ac out of the abs sensor when testing it out ...
