2003 montana pk3

not sure if anybody can help or not but I have a 75 year old man with a 03 montana with a pk3 security problem. keep in mind he is a very good customer. He was at a local store and when he went to leave and his van wouldn't start. securty light stays on. we towed it to our shop and the mechanic determined it was a security system problem. Now in the past we have bypassed a bonneville with resisters in the past. Can pk3 system be done the same way? This guy has very little money to have it fixed right and to be honest the van is not worth sticking 4 to 5 hundered dollars in it. pretty tuff shape but it is all hes got. We have tried the way where you leave the key on for 10min and so on but the security light never goes off. he only has one key also. Just fixed this guys power windows with this sites help (thanks)a few months. This ones gonna be a freebee sinces his family have been such good customers. any help would be great.

You might want to try a resistor type device, usually used with remote start for these pk3's. I bought one from sam's club online a while back, can't remember what it was called, but it cost $30. Haven't installed it yet so I can't say it works for sure.

Did you try disconnecting the van's battery for a couple minutes prior to doing this step?

no I didn't but the customer was in 2 weeks before that and we put a new battery in for hime but no, not at the time of trying to programing the key. We did give him a loaner vehicle until I can get his figured out but by looks of his van I don't want to wait to much longer. Really would hate to have to take this to a gm dealer.

Re: 2003 montana pk3

Does he have other keys for the van?

If so try reprogramming the keys, in the USA you need only 1 key, in canada you need 2 working keys.

You could call the dealer and ask them about reprogramming the keys with their machine that hooks to the computer if you don't have any other working keys.

What you can then do I have heard is cut the head off the key and take the cover off the steering column and put the head in there as close to the area of the key part of the ignition switch as you can. Now the security system will no longer work but he can then use any old key cut to work in the van.
