Angry CRX turns over but wont start

Please help me!!! I have a '91 Honda CRX HF and over the past month have been running into a couple of issues with it. I was having a hard time getting the thing started in the cold, so I relaced the battery (needed one anyway), replaced the distributor cap, spark plugs and plug wire thinking it would solve my problem. Worked well for a couple of days, but then the car started more issues. The car will start the first time I crank it up, but would quickly die after about 30 seconds. I'd then try and start it back up and would get nothing even waiting 30 minutes. After 9 hours of work, I'd get home and try and crank it up and it'd start fine and then repeat itself the next morning. Now when I start it up, it cranks but doesn't fire, almost like it's starving for fuel. I checked the ECU under the passanger carpet to find it throwing a CODE 15 & 16 being (Defective Ignition Output Signal & Defective Fuel Injector).

I check with some friends and they all pointed to the Ignitor & Coil in the Distributor. So, I just went ahead and replaced the entire thing since the prices were only $20 different. I'm getting a much better spark then before I replaced it, but it's still throwing a CODE 15. How do I get rid of that?

For the CODE 16, I checked and replaced the Main Relay under the dashboard since I couldn't hear the thing clicking when I tried turning the car on. I'm getting fuel to the Fuel Filter so the pump is good and I'm getting fuel to the Fuel Rails, but still not firing! I pulled the Fuel Rails and checked the Fuel Injectors themselves to find that none of them are spraying.......WTF? What could be going wrong with this?

I appreciate any help since I'm lost in the dark now with a car that won't START!

Re: CRX turns over but wont start

What is you fuel pressure?
find your specs here>> http://d-tips.com/Tools/toolbox/FPLU.aspx

For your code 15 check all the wiring connections between the ecu and the distributor.

Also, a shorted fuel injector could be causing all kinds of problems. You'll need a noid light to check your injectors.

I searched the internet and didn't see much on the code 15 except for some discussion over at Honda Tech >>> http://www.honda-tech.com/index.php

Question Re: CRX turns over but wont start

Alright, had a little time to play around with the car today. After replacing the distributor and removing the negative battery cable for about 30 minutes, the CODE 15 (Defective Ignition Output Signal) isn't flashing anymore......THANK GOD! However, I went down and rented a Noid Test Light kit and found out that my fuel injectors aren't getting any power to them. Nor is my Fuel Injector Resistor.....anyone having any info for me?

Re: CRX turns over but wont start

Make sure you're not pumping the gas pedal when checking for pulse.

A broken timing chain would cause no signal from your cam sensor.

Your positive wire to the injectors should be hot all the time with the key on engine off.

The pulse on off is in your ground circuit.

Check the wire connection at the ECU for corrosions.

If you do a search on this forum for "no pulse" you will get some threads that deal with this problem.

Talking Re: CRX turns over but wont start

Finally!!!!! Found out what isn't working on the car. Went to the junkyard and found probably about 10 CRX HF models out there all pulled apart and took the ECU and the Fuel Injector Resistor from one. Got home, plugged the resistor up first.....Nothing. Then plugged the "new" ECU up and WALA! Started right up. I guess the ECU was starting to go bad on it and eventually did for the fuel injection sector anyway. Thanks for the helpful information!

Re: CRX turns over but wont start

Glad you found the problem. Seeing that the injector pulse comes directly from the ECU makes the ECU a likely culprit but it's always good to check the stuff that's not going to cost you anything first like your connections.
