Re: start problem
When it happens you'll need to check for power at the small purple wire at the start with the key in the crank position. If there is power than the solenoid on the starter is bad. If you don't have a test light you can jump the small terminal to the large terminal of the starter with a screwdriver (it will spark - do this with the key in the off position) if the starter still doesn't turn over than the same thing, bad solenoid. If it cranks the engine over than you'll have to look further back. Neutral safety switch, ignition switch, and/or wiring in between.

Re: start problem
Sounds like a bad ignition switch.

Re: start problem
my car does this exact same thing usually it only lasts 4 minutes. it has to do with the stupid security system on it. if you try the key once and it doesn't start simply wait 4 min and it should start. DO NOT keep trying the key that simply resets the little brain in it and keeps adding more time to your wait. The problem typically can be fixed by relacing a module, for me it's not worth fixing the car has over 214,000 miles on it and i am going to purchase a new car i simply leave at least 5 min early for everything just in case. hopefully this helps you

Turn the AC controls to off with the key ON and let the unit park. Then remove the negative cable and then the positive. Inspect carefully between the two connections on the red positive for corrosion. While negative is off, check tightness of nuts on the connections at the starter solenoid. That may have been a problem where mine wouldn't start one time last winter. Started. Drove 5 minutes. Coffee. Read paper in car. Started couple times to run heater. Then it wouldn't crank--silence except for a relay clicking over on right under dash when I turned to crank. Had towed home after 5 hours. In garage. Went out to check it. Tried turning key again and it cranked and ran great. But couple months later cranking seem slowed at times. I found corrosion between positive battery cables. |
