upper steering wheel shaft

hello,

i have a problem.i can take my steering wheel and move it 1 inches either way.my steering wheel is not moving but the whole upper shaft.or what ever its called is.can anyone tell me how to tighten it up.

i think its the tilt wheel joint that is loose.how would i tighten it up

Year make and model?
Tilt wheel?
Is it up and down /sideways?
Or just play steering the steering wheel?

Does it have a Air bag in there?

it is a 1988 s15 jimmy 2 door 4.3l engine.yes it has tilt and its seems like its the tilt wheel system.

some one pmed me and said that its a common problem with the older gmc trucks with tilt wheel.and that there is 4 bolts that come loose.but i need to know how to do it

You have to take it all of the way apart and special steerng heel puller and tilt release tools and star socket required.

A good repair manual should lead you threw it.
