I was wondering how easy it would be to put one, maybe two turbo's into a stock 93+ non-turbo supra? Is the engine different? would there be as much power as a stock TT? I figured if it was possible it may be better to get a stock non-turbo, because maybe the engine would be less worn, then put turbos on it. Good idea/bad idea?

Well im not entirely sure on this but I think the block from the n/a cannot take as much power as the TT block also what kinda power you lookin for if you just lookin for 400 or something im pretty sure it will be able to handle it and if you just lookin to break into the three I've heard of some SuperCharger kits that are pretty cheap and with a SuperCharger its instant power but untimately its up to yourself what you want to do b/c with money anything can be done

The engines are different internally. The stock GE will not hold near the power the stock GTE holds. as Amish_Kid rightfully pointed out. In terms of power ya it is possible to produce close to the same numbers as the stock twin turbo but it is the very high HP numbers that make the GTE so popular

Also, the na engine's compression ratio is way to high to hold good boost.

The only diffences between the 2 are: Different intake Mani ( GTE inlet is in the front - GE inlet is on the side) The GE has ACIS the GTE doesnt The GTE has oil squirter for the pistons the GE doesnt The GTE has slightly bigger intake ports, BUT the GE's are actually positioned better. Starting higher in the header they have a more straight shot entry to the chamber, no bends equals better flow. You can make the same amount of power on a GE as the GTE. The engines are basically the same as far and the rods, crank, piston material, ect If you but the right mods onto the GE to make it forced induced it will hold the same amount of power in the stock form as a GTE in stock form. Here is a GE that ran a 10.66@125mph http://speedtoys.com/~daveh/93na-t/ |

The 2jz-ge is well suited for boost. The owner of the car in the posted link is someone who ive spoken to personally. His motor is a 2jz-ge with STOCK internals with the exception of the headgasket. If running 10's with only a headgasket swap isnt enought to tell you that the motor is strong enough to handle whatever you throw at it, then the knowledge that you think you hold is based in falsehood. On another note, for you 2jz-ge guys, i have a source for a turbo that is much better than the fmax kit as well as much cheaper. Drop me an email at [email protected]. Be sure to include whether you are 5 speed or automatic as this determines how much power you can run (unless you plan on building the tranny) |
