Talking Skyline GTR33... I finally found the color... (pix(s) inside) 56K beware!!!

Alright guys... wow, well im back from a long break from modeling, I basically got fed up because Tamiya's midnight purple got me all confused and frustrated that when I mixed the paint 5 different times, it never turned out right; it never looked like the color on the tamiya website... it called for 40 part clear red, 10 part purple, and 1 part chrome silver... haha can someone say crazy? So this car, is a Fujimi GTR... but I built a Silver R33 from tamiya before b/c I didn't know how to mix my favorite color... which was the midnight purple. I was determined to get this color right... so I called up some guys at Nissan japan... and they gave me this color code... automotive color LP2... was the midnight purple for the 95 GTR... you have got to be kidding me... this color was crazy... check this...

Basecoat: Black
Basecoat2: Deep Violet
Additions: Fine Pearl, Red Pearl, Sunset Pearl, and couple more things...

But the pearl is what gives it that crazy changing color...

Anyways I painted it and clearcoat with the 2 part auto clear/hardener

it cost me 27 dollars for a half pint... haha but dude this is the best color, and im glad I did it... sorta like a dream come true kinda thing.

Here are the pictures... now remember this is the REAL coat that they put on the GTR in real life... In America, this color belongs on a car from infiniti back in 95... its called Burgandy Pearl... code LP2... remember/ the GTR34 in 1999 use code LP4... if you want to the auto paint guys can make you a spray can or a 2 stage half pint.

You guys take a look now...

Can you see the color variations?

At night it looks black... you can see the black in the shadow shine

The clear really help the color shine, can you see the side door?

this is a close up, you can see the pearl parts gleaming... crazy eh?

this picture you can see the different colors well...

You can see the deeper pearl purple

Remember... there is no metallic "silver" in this paint, all the effects are made by the pearl parts... its crazy. and one major point... don't follow Tamiya or ANYONE elses color matching for this paint job if you want it... LP2, 19.99 to 30 dollars for a spray or a 1/2 pint... worth it for a great model color... I know upto date no one has this color down right, execept for using only the true real coat... can't be mocked up or made from model paints...

So all you skyline folks.... GO FOR THE REAL DEAL BABY!!!

Very nice, the colour is very very close to the R33's midnight purple.
Maybe if you could, take some outdoor pics to show the colour better.

Looks superb! The Midnight Purple looks very close to the real thing.

I've so far never had any of the mixes that Tamiya suggest for some colours turning out as they should do. The interior to the 350z is one recent example.

thanks for your comments just to go back

I didn't mix it, I wish I could =D I went to a automotive body shop paint store and I told them the code, and they made it for me. Just go to the store and ask for LP2

Regarding the Fujimi side skirts, I didn't know that hey wern't right, so I never corrected them, thanks for the heads up cph81, I love your skylines and I wish I could make an 400R =D. So how do I correct the skyline body for the right side skirts? Please tell me

Other than that today, I will bring the GTR outside for some pictures, Its finally clearing up here in northern california... finally

Stay tuned

thanks ya'll

Cheers,
Peter
