5sfe Turbo

Hey Guys im new to the forum. Just got my 93 NA T-Tops a few weeks ago. Already had to change out the clutch. Learning about the car quick. My question is this. One night while search for parts for a celica I found this site http://www.poweredbytoyota.com/burientoyota/index.html. They say they have a desent turbo for the NA. I was wondering if anybody has heard anything about them. Thanks.

Van Burien? i dunno what you're talking about, it's BURIEN TOYOTA... located down in BURIEN, WA... i was just there about a week ago and saw their turbo MR2 myself... for the money they're asking on that turbo, you'd probably be better off with a 3S-GTE swap, they want like $2500 for their kit, and even though they're very knowledgeable about MR2's it's probably to better turbo the engine that toyota used on the original turbo car if you want reliable power... just my $.02

BURIEN makes a great turbo for 5s-fe. I know someone that haves the kit for a long time without any problems.

new or rebuilt 5sfe motors

ok, so i had to replace the motor in my 93 mr2 N/A. the only motor i could get was a 3sfe out of a celica. i feel like my MR2 has been neuterd. I want another 5sfe!!!!! does anyone know where i can acquire a new or rebuilt 5sfe for my 93 mr2? i've seen new for 4 grand but i think that is just insane. i was thinking about 2 grand or less for new and 1,200-1,500 for rebuilt.

also, does anyone make cam gears or headers (besides pace setter) for a 3sfe?

desperate to find out. let me know ASAP!!!

-Martin.

A 3s-gte can be found for less than 4g...usually 1500-3000...If you get a late model jap spec it has 240hp...The older American and Japan spec have 200hp/200lb ft torque...Either one is better than the NA unless you plan to pour a lot of money into it and make it faster than the Turbo.

The NA does have the advantage of more even torque over the rev range and it can actually do much better than the 3s-gte engine, but it costs more in the long run. Personally I would go with a turbo, but it's another option and a hell-of-a-lot better than your current engine.

Hope this helps...

i know that at this stage i could easily do a turbo swap with the 3sgte motor but not only do i not have the money but the time. i drive my car daily. also i found a completely rebuilt 5sfe motor for 800 bucks. i haven't priced installation yet, but it will all happen in good time.

-Martin,

PS.
i wanted to get the 5sfe not only so i can buy stuff for my car but so i can get the 5sfe turbo kit at some later date when this is no longer my primary means of transportation.
