Questions about a supra i found

Do you all think $40,000 is too high for a red 98 Supra TT with 40,000 miles and a few scratches around the passenger door?

If this is too high what is a good price?

What other things should I look out for?

Thanks for the help in advance.

Questions about a supra i found

Hey!!!

I think that's a pretty fair price considering the year, the model and the mileage of the car. But if you want a Supra with a lot of Horsepower, there are other Supras that are more equipped with a lower price but they are the older models. So its your call...

PEACE!!!! :smoker2: :grey: :sun: :bandit:

The price is a bit high.
How bad are the scratches? Still though, I wouldn't give more than 35 for that car and at that I would feel like I was not making a great deal. By the way, is the car a six speed or automatic. The Six Speeds are worth a whole lot more than automatics. So make sure if you are really going to pay 40 grand for a car that it is the six speed.

Its a 6 speed. The scratches are near the passager side key hole. The are about 3 inches in length and are pretty deep. They go all the way down to the metal. ( At least one of the scratches anyway.)

This is the car.

Like I said, I still wouldn't pay any more than 35k for the car. To get rid of those scratches too you are going to have to paint so the seller should definatly being taking that into consideration. A good paint job will not be cheap.

The first car I was looking at getting was a 350Z. The reason I changed my mind is because Nissan made 33,000 Z this year. I see at least 5 a day. The resell value on the 350Z will not be very good, you can already get them under list new at the dealers. The modification potential is also very low. You can spend 1000's of dollars just to get 30 hp. The VQ engine can not handle the kind of boost the 2jz can. The only hope is something like the Nismo Vq35 crate engine that makes 500 hp.

Over all the Supra is a better car that, out performs, has a higher potintial, and will hold a higher resale value in the future.

The WRX- Sti, does not have the mod potential of a Supra. It’s a 4 cylinder engine that is almost already maxed out. It will cost way to much to mod. The WRX is ugly, Its new and any mods will void the warrant. The car is a 60/40 split awd. (They could have at least given more power to the rear wheels than the front.) In a year or two everyone will have a WRX- sti, just like the 350z and the WRX. The same thing applies to the Evolution.
Don’t even talk about the RX-8, pure garbage.

Rx-8

i with you the new RX-8 is a piece. I mean they don't even have a turbo out for the thing. It still has the horsepower that the turbo Rx-7 had but once they do get a turbo under the hood how hot is it going to get. I mean the Rx-7 was horrible with the heat issue.

wrx sti not maxed out

the WRX sti is definitely not maxed out.. it's a 2.5 liter.. and boosting relatively low.. i'm sure another 7-10 psi is perfectly reasonable with supporting fuel mods...i'm not an expert on the subject but the WRX sti has a lot of potential .. 400 hp for around 1000 in mods is entirely reasonable to expect although i'm not sure about the stock turbo's efficient psi range... also it has a driver controlled differential that can send up to 65% of the torque to the rear wheels..
around 35 k for the STI out the door... 5 k in mods.. 4 wheel drive, driver controlled differential, WRC heritage.. and 2003 new car warranty.. would be a better buy than a 40k 98 supra.. although i do love supras... if you were to go with the supra..you would do much better to look for a cheaper one and mod that.. say a 94 around 25 k... IMHO it's not like there are any major differences between a 94 and 98.. other than the vvti....

to avoid flames

well upon revisting my initial assessment.. it's obvious that the supra has more performance potential than the STI... with 700 hp + on the stock engine internals..however..if you are not looking to mod the crap out of the car and produce 500 hp+ then I would go with the STI.. you can have a 400+ hp car with 4 wheel drive..which is safer because there are 4 wheels providing acceleration rather than 2 upon exiting curves... plus it is a 2003 with a warranty...which will probably remain valid as long as you don't do crazy mods to the engine and the dealer does not know about them.. possible scenario; if you add a boost controller.. and the engine blows for some reason...remove boost controller..reset ecu.. and bring in car to dealer and pretend like you don't know what happened... for a 2003 car with warranty.. 0-60 in 4.7 and 1/4 in 13.0 .. and 4wd with DCD... and handling to match.. i'd say you'd have a hard time going wrong with that.. so in conclusion and hypothetically.. i'd choose it over a 98 supra for 40 k.. however..what i would probably do.. is buy a 93-94 supra for around 25k.. and mod that......so that's all ihave to say about that or wait.. actually i'd probably go with the evo.... for 32 k out the door... boost it to around 23 psi.. and clunk around town with that for a while

an r34 from motorex will run around $80k i think it was...

you can buy my supra for $16k rock bottom...and have $19k left over for mods which would be plenty for a single turbo + fuel + other supporting mods + NAWWWWWS (nitrous) haha

OR

my car + TT motor/tranny swap with low miles with 9k left to spend on maybe single turbo + fuel + other supporting mods
or!
TT motor tranny + full kit + nice ass paint job

not to mention...NA cars have much lower insurance rates =D

ps...i have 98 tails and can source 98 headlights and everyone will be none the wiser

email me if interested in discussing details
