Keyless entry and alarm
Hello everyone,
The dome light and the lights under the feet area do not go off on my 1996 Jimmy until 30 seconds after the doors have been closed, or immediate lly after I lock using the factory keyless remote, yet I have an alarm installed on it and it does not turn off the lights when I arm it. I have to carry both remotes, one to immediatelly turn off light to then activate alarm. I'd like to be able to only carry one remote, can anyone help? Does anyone have the same problem? Does anybody know how to make the interior lights (dome, etc.) turn off immediately after I close the doors? Thanks |

Re: Keyless entry and alarm
I don't know about the alarm, but the interior lights are designed to stay on after exiting the truck. I don't know of anything to do to defeat it except to maybe find the relay that operates them and "alter" it maybe. I'm guessing it is tied in to the dash light dimmer dial circuit (when rotated all the way up, that turns on all the interior lights). So, if you start at the dimmer switch, you might be able to trace down the relay through the wires. Personally, I wouldn't sweat it, though I'll admit that once in a while I stand there and watch the lights go off just to be sure I don't come back to a dead battery!
I've seen some universal remotes that will learn both of your FOBs, but can't quote you any specific models. Good luck!

Re: Keyless entry and alarm
Hmm, my alarm is designed to recognize delayed interior lights. (my lights are at about 20 seconds). After arming it does a soft arm until it sees that the light is out and then all sensors go on line... Check your install manual for this feature. Actually even my previous alarm did this.

Re: Keyless entry and alarm
Care to make a recommendation on your alarm that you use, Rlith? I'm thinking of installing one now that I've installed a decent DVD system. Thanks!

Re: Keyless entry and alarm
rlith,
Thanks so much for your advice! It turns out my alarm also has that delayed arming sensor. I made the adjustement to the alarm and it works great now. Thanks again. |
