96 Achieva 3.1L - Where is the A/C Low Pressure valve?
OK... I still haven't touched this car's A/C and I will not untill I get this clear:
Where is the A/C LOW pressure valve in this 96 Achieva 3.1L ? I see the high pressure valve (RED cap) but the only other one I find has a GREEN cap and is near the rear of the engine compartment. That valve is smaller and it does NOT accept the R134a filler nozzle. I was told that all R134a low pressure valves have the same fitting. The factory installed sticker indicates that it uses R134a refrigerant. Could it be that they used R134a but did not change the fittings? |

The one with the green cap is the low pressure valve. It is very possible that they used the old valve on your car. They do make adapter fittings for these fittings so it shouldn't be too expensive to find one.

Re: 96 Achieva 3.1L - Where is the A/C Low Pressure valve?
Hmm... on an automotive A/C forum I just learned that I should NOT touch that green port. They pointed me to the under side of the compressor. They even posted two pictures pointing me to the low pressure valve w/blue cap.
This doesn't help... please review the posts over here: http://www.autoacforum.com/messagevi...threadid=15791 and share your comments. |

It seems that GM once again had a better idea when it comes to AC. Olds seems to be the one that has oddball connections. Sorry for providing the wrong information but on most models the low pressure port is much easier to get to than having to try to connect behind the compressor.

It is located near the bottom corner of your fan 5 inches back from the compressor. Is easier to get to from under the car because there are other lines in the way on top of it
