AC Problem
Okay guys, here's my situation. My 2001 X5 AC has quit working. I've been told that the ambient temperature sensor could be bad. Before that it would surge when blowing then it stopped. Also I noticed that the compressor doesn't engage although I read someplace that the compressor only engages one time when initially starting the ac. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: AC Problem
If it was surging then the system was probably low on refrigerant. If it is low enough the compressor will not engage. And the compressor will kick on and off (the clutch engage and disengage) at various cycles.
You could try to recharge the system, but you probably have a leak somewhere. There are various things you could add to the system yourself to try to find the leak. If you don't want to tackle it any competent shop with AC equipment could diagnose (and fix if you want) the leak and recharge the system.
