How do I strip the paint off a model?
I painted my S13 Silvia and It looks awful so I want to strip the paint and primer off the model without melting the plastic. I would prefer to work with non toxic materials, what should I use?

I've just gone through this with my S2000 (cheap spray cans, one of these days I'll learn).
You need brake fluid, NOT brake cleaner (that will melt the plastic!), and a plastic container slightly larger than your model. Fill the container with the brake fluid, drop in your model and leave it for a few hours. Some time later the paint and primer should have come away, but you might need to do a litle bit of scrubbing to remove the last bits. I know, you did say non-toxic, but brake fluid isn't too bad if you get it on your skin (unlike Castrol Super Clean) and it doesn't smell as bad as other methods (such as oven-cleaner).

As Focus2000 says BRAKE FLUID does a good job!!
Just make sure you give your hands a good wash after as it removes all the natural oil from your skin!! One word of warning tho...If you have sensitive skin or have a skin complaint (i.e eczema) then wear gloves as it'll really aggrevate these conditions! And before repainting the body give it a good scrub with some warm soapy water, to remove all last remains of the fluid else your new paintjob will end up ruined!!

get a polishing cloth, or a cotton t-shirt and pour a bit of VERONUNG or VERUNUNG on, and wipe away at the model as you would to polish it, the name i have given you soundz completly fukt up, but thats its german name, i don't hav the english name sorry i recieved a soft drink bottle full of it from a friend who got it from a factory, so i'm not sure if this product is available to buy.
when wiped on a painted surface, it will completely remove laquer, primer, enamels away and lead you back to a shiny plastic molding colour, does not melt plastic I tryed this on one of my old crapper models, which had way too much paint sprayed on one side, and this chemical completly disolved the paint and it just ended up on the rag in a nutshell this stuff is like polishing compound except ULTRA times more pwerful |

I bet that stuff was either schnapps or apfelkorn!!
After getting pi**ed on both at Rosen Montag a couple of years ago I do believe it would strip paint!!

Brake fluid works well but here is an interesting product -
![]() Its called Modelstrip and i believe its made in the UK. I don't know anywhere online u can buy this, i got it from a local model shop. To use it u basically plaster the part you want to strip with the paste and leave overnight in a bag so it doesn't dry out. You then just scrub it off under running water and the paint just washes away. It works best on enamels and acrylics, I'm not sure about auto laquers coz it worked once on one model but not on another. The model it did work on had only recently been painted while the other was a couple of years old, but brake fluid soon shifted it!
