Red face warning - no new pics yet!

I actually made progress on it today! I painted the taillights, windshield frame, and 'thing between the mufflers' all black. I also stole the windshiled mask from my Type V kit to use on Dan's windshield and it is now painted, too, minus the side windows, as planned.

The body is already polished, the headlight assemblies and front grille went in today. The front end looks great!

Things left to do include:
  • Detailing the taillights: foil in lightbacks, red on the corners. The round lenses are already sprayed clear red.
  • The trunk lid. It was cut off because it was a trouble spot during polishing. It was stripped and repainted. When I'm satisfied that the colors match, it will be temporarily reattached for now. A hinge will be added later, when I have something interesting to put in the trunk. The third brake light is already attached to the trunk lid. The 'nub' on the lid that the clear part sits on was foiled, and the rest of the backside of the clear part was colored black, and I'm really happy with the effect.
  • The exhaust need to be repainted. I'll have flat black mufflers because that's what I've seen on all 1:1 S2Ks, but the cat and pipes will be gold-ish and chrome-ish, respectively
  • Afix metal transfers, antenna and mirrors.
  • Decide what to do about a license plate...
I'll get pics soon...

edit: thanks again, Dan... :coolguy:

Jay, any chance of up-to-date pics of your progress? I'm currently working on the V-Spec S2000, and could do with a bit of inspiration to get back to work on it.

Some pics:

Here's my windshield, which has come to me via England:

Here's the body with the poorly matched trunk lid.

Here's a mock-up w/out the trunk lid:

Jay,
That looks nice, so lets just get one thing straight then, you got a windshield and fixed that up, finished off the model, then on the way outside to take some photos of the car you lost the trunk lid?
You have some luck there

Ray

Everything's done on this list... pretty much... except for the trunklid. I primed it again today, and will try again to re-match my custom mixed Silverstone Metallic tomorrow...

One minor mishap... one of the "S2000" transfers got a bit tweaked and now the "S" won't lie flat...

To this end, I mixed up a color as close as I could come; checking blobs on test plastic next to the paint already on the body. I sprayed the trunk lid with a couple coats, and let it cure. After comparing, I saw the new mix was too light, so I added more gunmetal to the remaining mix and sprayed another pair of coats.

Next day: Still too light. More gunmetal. Two more coats.

Tonight: If it's still too light, I'll have to go for broke now, because I can only thin out my current mix so much before it's all thinner... :o

Yeah some of the greys I have mixed tend to dry lighter than they appear when wet. Don't really know what to say other than keep trying! The light at the end of the tunnel is getting closer
