Any straight edges are made with styrene sheet and a basic skeleton is formed. Putty is just applied to fill in areas and to provide shape. If there is any sanding to do on flat or straight areas, i use a wooden sanding block that came with one of those cheap hobby knife sets - its one of my most used and useful tools.
