Re: WIP: Tamiya 1/20 Jordan 191
It's all coming together now Bill, you're nearly there. The wheel looks great. How easy were the yellow OZ Racing decals to fix to the wheel? Did you cut off the clear carrier film on the decals before you applied them? Good job on them anyway.I remember building a Tamiya Lotus years ago now and I made a total mess of those yellow decals on the wheels.

Thanks Dave. The shape of the diffuser is unusual and looks really cool.

Re: WIP: Tamiya 1/20 Jordan 191
The yellow stripe on the wheel was difficult to apply. I didn't remover the excess carrier film as I have learnt that a) I can't cut a neat line and b) the edges are liable to wrinkle. However, the wheel rims are smaller than the decal (including the carrier film) so this meant I had to use lots of MicroSol to get the carrier film to curve to the wheel. I didn't get all the stripes completely lined up on my first two wheels but the 2nd two wheels I think I got the hang of it. This is the first F1 car I have done with yellow striped OZ wheels, and I have to say they look very good.

Re: WIP: Tamiya 1/20 Jordan 191
Hi Bill,
I know what you mean about those OZ Racing stripes, I've just done the wheels on the Revell EJ10, and it takes a lot of patience and a good deal of MicroSol to get them right. Your build looks great, I started one of these kits a while back, its on hold, pending me getting the EJ10 speed build out of the way. Happy modelling Ant |

Re: WIP: Tamiya 1/20 Jordan 191
I never noticed it before, but the tires have a really good "used" look. Keep it up!

In the past I have spun them on my mini-rotary drill to sand them against sanding paper or, alternatively, spun the wheel round a spindle whilst I attached a sanding bit to the mini-rotary drill. Both ways work but involve getting the drill out and that is a bit of a polava. This time I just used Stevens International Swizzle Sticks Sanders and did it all by hand. You get exactly the same worn look on the tread surface but with less hassle. However, it takes more time to ensure that you get an even finish. The gloss side-walls accenuate the worn look of the tread and does not look artificial in person.Kind regards and thank you for taking the time to comment, Bill |
