hi guys, i was just looking around AF and found this one and u guys are cool, hi chris we will have to get Lambo_Boy to post on the whats the fastest you have driven forum and upset some lamers lol. im lucky im a brit and ive seen 2 F1 in "real Life" Reg. Nos 3 MCL and 7 MCL. The guy Driving 7 MCL was one of the guys off the Top Gear Episode u guys are on about, He had the BIGGEST grin on his face, it was while i was on the M42 Motorway (Freeway) near Birmingham in heavy traffic, i was in the middle lane, looked in my mirror and saw this "Thing", Thought to myself "Nah couldnt be!!" ask my friend who was with me to see wat it was. "Its a F****** Maclaren F1" of course i slowed a little and let it come slowly past me, as i looked over i saw the guy with the grin. wouldnt we all be grinning driving that peice of Machinery. I pulled out behind him ( we only doing about 30 Mph in the traffic ) he let a gap open up in front of him, then dropped the hammer, the fin came up and i still cant believe the acceleration it has, he slowed down and let me pass him i nodded over to him, he waved back, then he left the Motorway BTW i had my window open and the Stereo off to listen to the Engine, it is so sweet Who Needs A Stereo in an F1. 3 MCL i just saw in passing, not as much fun:o Still it was an F1 tho.:sun:

The question of Body or Engine? Has to body cos there aint much the engine can go in anyway, and at least the Body will still look good.

yes Gang$tarr it was Tiff driving on the top gear episode but this was awhile after it when i was on the Freeway, im pretty sure it was one of the Engineer guys who was driving it. Nice perk of the job i supose ( The LUCKY Git ), i saw the top gear thing on TV when it was first aired, not sure but i think tiff went on to drive the F1 in Le Mans.

Talking Building McLaren F1 replica

Attention:
Building a McLaren F1...
The McLaren is known as one of the most exotic cars in the world, of course you know that. Also one of the hardest to get, We are building a McLaren F1 replica. This is like no ordinary replica though. We build the chassi from a 1 1/2 " tubular powder coated steel, instead of a some other stretched car. It can be powder coated any color you would like. We have a racing suspension, carbon fiber body, BMW V12 modified, CD player, working fin in the back, working compartments, and center drive. This well built car has the same dimensions as the original, cant tell the difference, and the differences will be the gold lining in the engine compartment and the satellite uplink. We do not have those. The original goes for you know a cool 1 to 1.8 million dollars. Did you also know, if you bought a real McLaren you are only allowed to drive it 2500 miles a year? If driven over 2500 miles they take the car back. We of course do not do that, you may put as many miles as you want.
Our McLaren may be serviced at any BMW mechanic or any BMW dealer. When the car is registered it will be registered as a McLaren F1 R1 or just McLaren R1. You may have this car painted in any color you want, frame and body, and...if there are any differences you want done differently to this car you may ask and we can possibly add or subtract what you want or don't want. We can make it a limited edition... Please reply and ask me any more questions you may have. Price will go up on demand, and we will not make very many. Please get back to me asap

$160,000 down starts the car, you pay the rest when finished, or you can go ahead and pay in full. Up to you. We will not start any car unless we have a deposit, car is very costly and takes 4 to 4 1/2 months to build. But the wait will be worth it..

Order now and get yours before summer 2002
Have fun in the sun!!! please spread the word the McLaren is back!!!

Thank You!!

Jeff

I doubt they can take away your property when you drive it even 1.000.000 miles a year.
They surely mean you should do a Full Service after 2500 miles or 9 months. These are sadly no unusual intervals for supercars.

Actually, they are allowed under the show and display clause. Which limits mileage to 2500 miles a year. A racetrack is different, and unlimited.

Tiff was an F1 and Le Mans driver. he lead a lap in Lemans while driving one of Aston Martins cars.
the guy with the afro in the lambo episode is Jeremy Clarkson, he is one of their contributing editors.

Lightbulb More about the McL F1

Further extending hermunn123's explanation of the moving wing on the McLaren:

The wing provides several things:
• high speed braking stability (back wheels won't lock as easily, thus won't spin out, especially on a mid-engine car)
• more even brake bias at high speeds, thus
• feasability for use of softer brake pads, thus
• drivability with unboosted and non-ABS brakes, even across the high speed range, thus
• reduced weight (no power braking equipment!)

And about the gold:
Gold is the best heat reflector. It is also a very good conductor. What this means is the actual radation from the engine bounces off the gold, through the glass, and out into space. If the gold wasn't there, the heat would be hitting the nice black carbon fiber, which we all know is not too healthy.

As technologically advanced and beautiful the McL F1 is, one must realize how much of its technology trickled down from the aerospace industry. (Vector.. <shudders>)

This is a good amount of reading, hope it doesn't raise your nerdosterone/geekstrogen levels too much: you may have a dorkgasm!

click on press, read the stuff
(and YES, www.mclarencars.com is the OFFICIAL McLaren [road] Cars company website)

Here's a few McL F1 desktops I made

Car and Driver, the greatest car magazine out there, did a story on the Koeingsegg CC in the Nov 2001 issue:
http://www.caranddriver.com/xp/Caran...t_superegg.xml

Road and Track, Car & Driver's snobby prep-school brother, actually reviewed the F1 a while back. I can't find the date exactly, if someone can check at a library or something I'm sure you can find it. For the most part, this looks like the text:
http://jamesh91.tripod.com/page_3.htm

And to the chassis count: There were 100 produced for order, but I believe there may have been somewhere around 5 prototypes built as well. Look closely at details (bumper, mirror, etc.) and you might be able to spot out which ones were protoypes. (one of them being the blue XP5 that Tiff Needell drove on Top Gear).

in my November '94 issue of Road and Track which has the F1 on the cover, Paul Frere wrote a different article than the one you posted in the link. that article does look to be written by Road and Track though considering Peter Egan wrote it.

Turbyne: where did you get all your information? that was good stuff.
