auto is more fun, but if it takes you .8 seconds to shift manually, and the auto does it .3 seconds, and you just hurt your tranny doubbleclutching then you just lost your point. If I take my car to a dyno, I can have my shift points changed, why? Because its electronically controlled. Second, if you manually shift the auto (1st, 2nd, (3rd on some) D) then why need a manual. I still stand by my point that its better for drag racing. Oh, and if you put a shift kit on it, use stronger gears, put your shift points to their sweet spots, lockup converter at just the right rpm and get a carbon fiber knob (kidding on the last one ) youll do better than -any- manual.

I won't deny, TV, the benefit of Auto shift on the dragstrip. But, I'm a corner carver with low torque (more than most cars with an NA pushrod engine my size, but still not much more) and fairly revvy. I need to have total control of what my car is doing at that precise moment to maintain speed and momentum. An automatic doesn't do that for me. Plus, I could never get used to my B without the melodious whir of her straight cut gears. Of course, I wouldn't mind not having to match revs each time I shift when in traffic. That's a pain. Almost as much of a pain as not having a synchro on reverse. Is it in reverse yet, *release clutch, grunch, sputter, lurch forward* No.

Now, if I owned the candy-apple red 1969 AMX, sitting on 16in natural state Torque-Thrusts powered by a 426 Max Wedge engine (complete with cross-ram intake and twin Holleys) that I want, then I'd probably have an automatic. Then I'd just go cruise around until some punkess decides to try and match up with me.

Manuals are for sports cars. Autos are for draggers. The RX7 hybrid is using a Porsche 5 speed transaxle, because it's what I have available...

Hey TV, did you get my email about that motor?

double clutching????

my gosh man, you need to put down DMC12's copy of Fast And Furious...

i think everybody knows that double clutching a car of any sorts is damn near pointless.

We've already covered this in another thread, but double clutching is only usefull on larger engines that are keyword here... DIESEL. yes thats correct, you double clutch them old Diesels so the RPM's wouldnt fall below the power band and leave you stuck going up a hill. But now the new diesel trucks are even fitted with a Syncro tranny. So no Dbl Clutching needed.

Double Clutching a car was needed back before syncromesh was invented. What Syncromesh does is mate the two gears at a similar speed instead of one at fast RPM and the other at Slow...

eiii man they just threw in that phrase "granny shifting and not double clutching like you should" because the writers are morons.

Lets never use any phrases from that movie ever again... but i might go watch it now.
