Re: Blue Seven (Parts 2)

Did you use 1:1 anti glare coating, or did you scale it down somehow? Nice touch with the different mirrors. That's one of those amazing details that really brings a model to life - not only do you have the skills to make such a complexly detailed model, but you have the thoughtfulness to build it as if it were something you planned on driving. That's what makes killer models, if you ask me. Outstanding.

Re: Blue Seven (Parts 2)

Thanks again. Not sure why that one picture came out so small, I even reloaded it in my album to see if there was an anomaly there. I'll put up a better picture once I get more done on it, maybe even today... Plus I forgot to pose the "glass" when I took the shot. Had it in a safe place...
I just used rosin core solder.
The anti-glare coating was mixed with paint to match. (I have a Wink in my real car.)
Stay tuned... - Mark

Re: Blue Seven (Parts 2)

It's a multi-panel rearview mirror made up of usually five staggered and angled rectangular panels to provide a panoramic view. Eliminates most blind spots. They also offer a smaller three panel version which is what I am making for this project... - Mark

Re: Blue Seven (Parts 2)

Thanks Mark, learn something new every day!
I'm assuming this is an American invention, never seen these in the UK!
Keep up the good work, looking forward to seeing this all come together - you must have piles of finished components!

Re: Blue Seven (Parts 2)

I've seen them on race cars in all parts of the world. I've been using them since the '70's.
Yes, I have many finished sub-assemblies waiting to be called into action... - Mark

Re: Blue Seven (Parts 2)

Gotta be honest, looking at this thread really makes me wonder why I continue to build? This kind of quality just makes me want to give up on my builds, they will never see this level

Unbelievable! simply put.

You build because you want to? At least that's why I do it.
Build for yourself and you will probably enjoy the hobby even more... - Mark

Re: Blue Seven (Parts 2

Here are two of the three mirrors, the center Wink and passenger side wide angle.

The steering rack. Kept the housing and internal gears from the kit. Replaced the tie rods and made them adjustable. Cut left and right hand threads into them, only the left handed parts are shown here. Yes, the nut was threaded onto the rod. The adjuster is intentionally "marred", ever seen one after it's been wrenched on a few times? - Mark

Re: Blue Seven (Parts 2

I still belive that ruler got to be one of those large oversized promotional items they hang from the celing in conventions ;-)

The work done on this kit is simply amazing and gives me so much inspiration.

I've only been modeling for about 3 months and have already aquired most of my favorite cars and expect to finish them within a year (or two), but threads like this convince me that this hobby really can be a hobby for life. Thanks.

Re: Blue Seven (Parts 2

More stuff is coming together...
The rear fenders with taillights and C/F stone guards, (made with brass)... Taillight housings and bulbs are shown inside left fender, (not installed)....

The three mirrors and windshield supports finished, made of aluminum, and ready to be mounted to the windshield frame, made of brass...
Note the flanged nut, (not me, the part)... - Mark
