Re: Ford Escort RS1800

Glad you guys are enjoying the build.

Here the diff-guard plate, as the Rally Prep Manual refers to it has been fabricated and installed on the rear axle.

Re: Ford Escort RS1800

The kit provides no head light detail. It has you gluing the lenses directly to the flat surface of the grill surround. So I ordered Reji's resin trans-kit as well as the photoetch set. The resin kit provides a head lamp bucket. Strange thing is the resin part it too large to fit inside the photoetch grill so I had the make my own.

Re: Ford Escort RS1800

Here I have fabricated the front strut braces for the inner fender. They should be vertical but the kit's front suspension geometry is off and I chose not to attempt to correct it.

Re: Ford Escort RS1800

The improvement work you're doing here on a "simple" plastic kit is really impressive and mind-blowing !!
I really like, some inspiration to find for my Vatanen kit, even if I will never go so far in improvement.

Re: Ford Escort RS1800

Seems a shame to paint it tbh.
It'll look fantastic even unpainted with the modifications clear.

Re: Ford Escort RS1800

Hi,

Nice work again =)

If you want, you can improve your radiator with a small surgery

Thanks Kimmo. I haven't done any detailing to the radiator itself yet. Is your picture the kit radiator? What modification did you do? Looks like a new cap.

Hi

I did use the kit radiator as a base (there is not much left). I made the top and bottom end of the radiator using evergreen plastic strip , and for radiator it self is crazy modelER radiator etch.
The cap i found Ford Escort etch set, made By fellow modeller here in Finland.

Add a small rod to your Front struts
there is a nut not a bolt in the middle of strut

Kimmo

Re: Ford Escort RS1800

Thanks Kimmo. I am going to drill the nut and use a small brass rod as a pin to locate the part. I want to keep it a separate piece until after painting. I should have been smarter and drilled a large hole in the reinforcing plate before I installed it. Something to improve upon next time.
