Re: I want to get into street raceing
id go with the 240sx if i were u. people and their "hondas last forever" lol. i knew a guy that had an old honda, about as reliable as a leaky pipe. almost all cars built nowadays are reliable, true thought there was a time when american cars didnt last very long, and honda is the reason they improved, because their older cars were lasting a lot longer. but nowadays most cars are gonna last a while. that nissan will last a long time to. id say the least reliable of those cars is the eclipse.

Re: I want to get into street raceing
For reliability, I'd go with Honda or Nissan over Mitsubishi.

Yeah the only thing is I don't care for the 4 Cylinder. I don't know about those cars because I haven't got to test drive but my 94 ford ranger is a dog on acceleration. And thats all I see with preludes. And for the 240 its just going on its 10 years soon.

Re: I want to get into street raceing
240+sr20det=fun, but u can't beat pure AWD acceleration. Either of the 2 cars would be nice starting point. They are 2 of my favs so i really cant say go with this one over the other. Like the nissian is lite but not alot of hp potential. The mitsu/dodge is heavy but makes up with technolgy,hp,and awd. I personally think of the 240sx as more of a drift machine *to much D1 i guess* Never seen alot of street racing vids on it save for the one that had the Rb26dett in it. Still then he had to take it easy b/c it being rwd. I guess in the end it all comes down to driver prefernce he me test drive one and hate it but love another. Finding the right car is like finding the right girl. There are so damn many but once u find the right one thats it you'll never want another. Unlees u cheat and drive your friends like lambo but that is besides the point.lol

In fact, with that post you just contradicted your previous statement about a 240sx + SR20det=fun. Ask anyone on here, ask TatII, from what i've read from his posts and what not...the 240 has plenty of potential, and he has friends that have taken the potential and turned it into reality even on the KA (T) engine.

Re: I want to get into street raceing
That mistibishi has a v6 right? That car should be plenty reliable, i dont think that will be a problem with any of the cars. but is that that 2.5v6 or the 3.0? i know that avenger people always prefer the 4 banger over that 2.5v6. its easier to turbo and in avengers u cant put a manual tranny on a car with that v6.

Re: I want to get into street raceing
3 liter Twin Turbo. The highest real potential with a Sr20 is around 500hp same with the KA(T). The VR4,RT/TT can be pushed to 400 with a intake,up the boost to 14psi, and gutting yoru pre cats. See what i mean they VR4,RT/TT has alot more potential then the 240sx. As for traction are u talking bout the drifting or the rb26dett. Drift machines don't require alot of Hp look at the maita's and AE86 drifting. The 240 is a nice car but like i said the VR4, RT/TT has alot more potentail. grab like a 94+ 320hp 300lbs torque,6speed,AWD,AWS,Active aero Stock.Plus resale value. The VR4 are holding nicley at the 15k range stealtlhs alot lower due to the dodge name being attached.

Normally I would be quick to agree being a vr4 nut and all but I don't know. A nissan with a swapped sr20 red or black top and bolt ons can be built to run pretty quick. I've seen more 240sx swaps set up to run 11's easier than setting up a vr4. Its basically all about finding a really cheap chasis with a good transmission when it comes to finding a profitable 240 investment. The turbo dsms have high potential with their powerplant as well. When I compare the number of dsms and swapped 240s breaking 11's and 10's to the number of vr4 or stealth tt's breaking the lower numbers it shows the 240's and dsm's to have an advantage for potential. I do think vr4's are quick ass cars though and if somone had enough money to spend they could really make the vr4 shine as a 9 second street legal beast but we're still waiting on that one. Basically a dsm or 240 will be a lot cheaper to find than a vr4 but with the vr4 you already have a mid 13 second car and you'd have to spend that extra money on a dsm or a 240 you would have paid to get the vr4 in the first place to get either to run high 12's to low 13's that the vr4's can see with some DIY mods. |

Re: I want to get into street raceing
I think pearl GT said it the best, you see alot more 240sx
's and gsx's hit the 11's than you do the vr4's. One because it cost less money to build an 11 second 240 and 2. Because of the WEIGHT! . Its all about power to weight. I know its been stated many times, but in this thread i feel that it needs to be stated again... you can have a 1000 hp supra, or vr-4, but its not gonna do you anygood if your trying to move a freighter. on the other end, you can have a 5 hp engine, and that thing will move, just as long as the object its moving doesn't weight nearly as much..such as a wooden go kart. (you thikn i'm kidding.. my neighbor worked on lawnmowers..let me tell ya something.. you put a lawnmower engine on 7 pounds of wood when your about 8 years old and you'll have the time of your life. but back to the point that i'm trying to make. you speak of so much potential, yet the fact is that you don't need to have 500 hp to be fast. and the more power you have doesn't mean you'll go faster.

Re: I want to get into street raceing
What are the types of preludes?
SH and normal perlude? What one is better I hear SH is heavy but has more power, does it have more power to make up for it begin so heavy? |

Normal ones and sh ones have the same amount of power. SH's have an active power transfer sysetm that makes the car handle a lot better. It wieghs the car down a little. Not enough to make a differace. In straight line they are both the same

Re: I want to get into street raceing
Being a Honda owner myself, I would say don't get the prelude. With just I/H/E I kept up with a newer prelude. I don't know what it had done, but I'm sure it was fairly close to stock. I also test drove one because I was looking to buy one. I highly recommend that you don't get a prelude. They are pretty sluggish. Nice looking but I wouldn't buy one. If you have a little less than 20K to spend, invest in an SRT-4, a 99+ Mustang GT, or find yourself a DSM and then build that up.
There are so many cars out there than a Prelude. And for less than 20K, you can find something so much better. The 240 is a great idea as well. If I remember correctly some of the fellow 240 owners have said their internals can handle 350+ HP. But also, another idea would be a 92-95 Civic hatch, swap in a B18C1, and then Turbocharge that mother. But I'm biased to Hondas. But then again, it's your money, your taste, but I just wanted to give you my input and just advise you of things that are better out there. If you end up getting the prelude, then good luck to you. L8... |
