Re: 1-24 MFH Aston Martin DB-R 9 Silverstone 05

quick and really short update

just sprayed some Finisher's 2K clear on the body and some other CF parts. It turned out ok but not perfect... a little dust on 2 or 3 spots but some careful polishing will fix that I hope. Another thing is that the carrier film of the decals is still a bit visible maybe I need to spay another coat, we'll see... Ohh and I lost one of those little yellow arrows.. just flew away during painting but luckily not on wet paint Good thing is that MFH included some spare arrows

now I'm getting confused about whose build I am looking at ! (Good job you have orange stripes to tell them apart!)

Looks very nice I must check my arrows!! (If you need more, I have all my spares still)

I see someone has been spraying graffiti in your booth....

It's a good idea to add some glue to the back of very small decals before applying them. Use a white glue like Micro Krystal Klear or Pacer Formula 560 Canopy Glue.

Thanks for the tip. The MFH decals adhere actually very good... I just made a slight mistake I guess. To save some time I put about 4 of these arrow at once in the water since I thought applying wouldn't take that long but it was I guess But since it was only one I 'm fine with it.

Re: 1-24 MFH Aston Martin DB-R 9 Silverstone 05

Ok then finally a update...

As some of you know I tried everything to get this thing done for AFMOTY but I failed...
Anyway I made good progress but since I was pushing it a bit I disregarded the WIP and didn't take much pics during some stages, sorry for that

I got the body pretty much done (painting atleast, all the pe meshes and stuff still needs to be added), added the missing little yellow arrow on the hood + added another layer clear to that area (turned out fine). Then the polishing process begun, using the excellent Finisher's polishing set.

CF Parts also finished...

More CF decals for the chassis, this time I used SMS HI-Def decals.
I basicly finished all the CF work, every little flap + wings, rear wing, chassis.

Something I'm really happy with, the whole dashboard part is painted with some gray and then covered with SMS CF... The macro mode makes the pattern look really huge I also removed all buttons and stuff on the panel which will later be detailed with some turned parts, sakatsu parts or simply styrene rod.

the tool boxes or whatever they are also cleared but not polished yet, they have a quite rough surface but that will be fixed soon...

Also a little rework on the mobile. I filled the "original" speakers "holes" with some putty and re-drilled it later. The original holes are completly off center for whatever reason.. Then added some more buttons made out of styrene. The other buttons still need to be painted + the LCD.

Rollcage finished, the rear mirror is also covered with CF

Rearwing is all covered up with CF + clear. But it still needs to be polished.

So I have almost everything painted and ready for assembly. I only need to finish off some parts and then put it together...

But since I have no deadline anymore I made the first drawings for some more parts. I will try re-create the steering wheel assembly which looks rather simply out of the box... this it what it should look like

And I saved the horrible thing for the end. Not everything went good during polishing. I got some compound under a decal, yes you read right... I assume it happened this way, since the MFH decals have a big excess film which even comes over the trunk panel line (right above the decal, see the pic). So I cut it right at the panel line so it would "end" there which was fine. But I guess (or I know now) that the decal didn't adhere very well. So when I polished the area, I took the clear from the edge of the panel line and since the decal didn't adere it was easy to get compound under there which of course happened. To make it short, I will now have to sand the decal off and replace it... no big deal... I hope.

I also noticed some of the excess film on the orange decals on the roof came off but this will be fixed when the windows are in place... but still really annoying never had any problems with decals but this time it really came all together...

Ok that's it next up is the detailing of the chassis!

PS.: The green looks really messed up in some pics, I don't know it somehow looks really grainy... I really think I should do some outdoor pics with some proper light.

EDIT: FOLA if you read this please contact me, I sent you 3 mails since mid december but never got an answer, did you get the mails at all?... Do you still need the part, I got one ready to send out for weeks? Please let me know!?

Looking just great

I am also looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the steering wheel assembly

Re: 1-24 MFH Aston Martin DB-R 9 Silverstone 05

THANKS!

@MidMazar the plexi box is bought from sora.de (only german). They offer these custom made for your needs. But I can't really recommend them... As you can see there are screws everywhere (I can take a close up of the fixings if you want) and they are not dust proof... Actually I only tried them because they are not really expensive and I simply needed a cover for the racingminiatures CF base. So to be honest I wouldn't buy it again...

Yes I reveal all secrets, I promise

I forgot to ask in my last post, does anybody of you have a shot with the steering wheel off? I would love to make parts to actually being able to take the steering wheel off but I'm not exactly sure how the real thing looks like when taken off...
