i couldnt agree more. 1/4 mile times are everything to some people, notably americans, and i think its completely wrong.
about the camaro, its really not surprising it gets overtaken on the turns. its an appalling car for anything other than straight line speed... in fact, for EVERYTHING except straight line speed |

hey wats the point of a car that handles good but is slow az shit???
quarter mile times and speed is one part of the car just lyk handling and braking are. you need em all to make a great car so u cant say quater mile times are nothing. |

If you have ever actualy done any circut racing then you quickly realise how numbers amount to nothing more than bullshit.
They make a good of offering a simple comparison of a car, and its basic ablities, but beyond that you have to get in the car and drive it in a real life situation to know whats better. As an example, I used to have an old 1973 Triumph 2500TC with some head and cam work it made about 150hp from a 2.5L six. On paper it did 0-60 in about 8.5secs and the 1/4 in about 17. Yet on the road I could quite easily walk all over a GT Legacy, a car with 240hp from a Turbo boxer engine and a 1/4 in the low 15s. In the real world I had almost instant torque down low, and with a 4sp g/box with over drive 7 forward ratios to choose between. The older GTs suffered nasty turbo lag, and most were Automatics. By the time they got on boost, and the auto found a ratio it could use I was already gone. When it comes to handling I took the same Triumph around a local track in the same speed group as an old but very well race prepared Alfa Sud. It had HUGE disc brakes on the frount a picture of it with the back wheels up in the air underbrakes. The suspension was similarly worked over. Around Taupo (local Circut) the Alfa was consistanly 1 sec faster per lap, yet it had a badly worn 1300cc engine in it, (the race engine blew up) and when I entered the back straight it was half way down, yet at the end of the straight i was pulling up beside him before braking for the 1st corner. On a 1/4 mile track I would have left him behind, in real life and on a race track it was the MUCH faster car, and it did it purly by handling.

I have to try though, he might get it one day, however he some what culturaly enginered to put a lot of emphisis on numbers, its a very American thing, and its only exagerated in someone who has little driving experiance. However when he does get that experiance he might realise what we are saying much sooner. And of course you never know who else is reading the thread.

yup just like how when Sport Compact Car compared the R34 GT-R V-spec to the NSX at Buttonwillow (race track) both are stock. the NSX was clocked an average of 2mph faster then the GT-R at every given point (4 i think) of the race track, yet the GT-R still came out on top being atleast 2 seconds faster then the NSX.

I think he's saying the NSX either had a higher top speed at all the fastest points on the track, but the GTR was faster through the corners, or Vice Versa. My Guess is the NSX had was faster mid corner, but the GTR was faster out of the corners, and down the striaghts.

what i was sayin is that the NSX had to acelerate hard, then slow down hard. which takes alot more time then just one consistant speed that the GT-R was able to do at the track.

I would have thought the NSX would be quicker through the turns, OK the GTR has 4WD but it weighs a good 150kg+ more!

The NSX has a tendency to understeer at the limits. With 4wd, the gtr can really push the grip limits with speed.

True.. Anyway, which NSX model are we talking about here? I cant help thinking the right driver in the NSX (its obviously more difficult to drive) would be able to beat an R34.
