Re: 89 Mustang GT 5.0 VS. 98-02 WS6 Trans Am LS1 5.7

i saw the dyno sheet, but it was about a year ago so idk the exact #'s. i know for sure #'s were at least 300rwhp. the guy couldn't figure out why it was putting out those #'s so i told him to check the block and it was an LS6 but i wasn't sure if gm used the LS6 heads too in some f-bods

Not saying it didn't happen.
LS6 block shouldn't make any more power than an LS1 block with the same cam and heads on it.

Some cars are freaks. Watched a 2001 Firehawk lay down 333 RWHP 100% stock. In person.

Re: 89 Mustang GT 5.0 VS. 98-02 WS6 Trans Am LS1 5.7

As far as I know, no LS1 got LS6 heads in an F-Body.
Firehawk had a couple extra minor power mods. Better exhaust, I believe they have a blackwing-type lid stock. Plus the 01 and 02 cars had the LS6 intake.
I can see 330 RWHP through the M6 stock.

Just watched a friends new 2004 LS1 Corvette lay down 307 RWHP with an A4.
Stock to the paper air filter.

Re: 89 Mustang GT 5.0 VS. 98-02 WS6 Trans Am LS1 5.7

IMHO even with a cam it's an uphill battle for a 5.0 to keep up with a LS1 WS6. I mean even with full bolt ons he's not gonna see anywhere near the power that your car has. I've raced busloads of 5.0 stangs that had quite a bit of work done to them. The ones that were fast had forced induction or were bored and stroked out. People don't really realize the difference between the cars by the seat of the pants.

I see 5.0 stangs with bolt ons running 14's all day long whenever I go to Speedway. Seen ones that were punched out to 331 w/ forced induction and full bolt ons running 11's. Like I said he'll need more then a cam.

If you're not good with the stick you will lose though. The stock 10 bolt rearend leaves alot to be desired getting off the line.

The 4L60E should eat up like 3 - 5% more power than the T56 but it can be more depending on the condition of auto and T56 used in a comparison.

Check the post above mine. Formula explained it well.

But remember, dyno numbers mean nothing. They are just a tuning device. The numbers that matter are at the track. Where the stalled auto will excel.
