When finished look at your haynes manual. It shows to disable the computer so it won't move the timing when you set it. The computer will move the timing so much its impossible to do correctly unless you do this.

you speak of brown and white wire you need to disconnect to check/set timing. If so I am aware of that procedure on setting timing on a L05. Thks for all ur help so far.

So you did not mention gasket seal, or rtv? same thing? I noticed when cleaning the timing cover, it appeared that none was used. So to use or not to use....That is the question.

I use a gasket and No.2 permatex on the timing cover. You can use some silicon with a gasket. I've had problem with bolts breaking using silicom. Use a small screwdriver to clean bolt holes. Some people use way to much silicon with no gasket. All silicons are now oxygen sensor safe unless you buy some old stock at a flea markrt.
Loosen the front oil pan bolts and put silicom along both sides and top of oil pan. Unless you have a new rubber gasket.
