Re: carrera gt; hot or not

actually i don't favour either car.
i'm just trying to point out that a lot of what people base their judgement on is either too variable, be it the case of track times where roadgrip levels, air density, stone chip on the road etc etc play a factor or something like handling where personal preference comes into it.

i also don't like it when people cite someone else's (especially when that someone else is walter rorhl) lap time on the 'ring as if you will ever get anything like it.

and yes, i agree, if a GT is what you're after then the enzo is probably your best bet as it is the easier to drive.
also, you've understood my point by saying
"it is a road car with Formula One inspired technology".
like i said, as a road car, which is what it is, it is compromised because the set-up was done on a track with no reference to real world surfaces.

the enzo doe not fulfil it's aspirations.
it is not a true hard-core racer as the F50 was, nor is it a Grand tourer; it's kind of lost in my opinion.
it's like the little boy who wants to be the fastest but seems to have forgotten why.
it is flawed as a race car and it is flawed as a road car.
also, it seems to me that it does not have the one thing that ferrari insists they are about; passion.
when i think of ferrari 'supercars' i think of gritted teeth determination.
i think of coolness in being able to wrestle with a beast, maintaining control whilst in the midst of a storm.
think F40, think 288 gto, think F50.
think wheel juddering, chassis shaking, you feeling every bump and gearchange.
i don't get that is there in the enzo.

when i think of german 'supercars' i think of smooth precision.
i think of cool, calm, pure ability of the machine, smooth, 'metallic' is a word that seems to fit...
whatever it is the GT has it.
it's the same thing that i get when i think of the Mclaren F1.
not fussing, just doing.

that's the difference to me.
it's quite clear that both companies have a different philosophy.
in this case the ferrari just seems a bit confused.

in any case,
sod the numbers.
i don't give a monkey's cos i know that none of us here (maybe...) will ever get anything like the published stats (except maybe with the enzo cos well, you don't need to be a good driver in that....) and that's also kinda part of my point.
the enzo might be fast but it doesn't require much driver input.
one article points to michael schumacher not being able to do a better lap time with the traction control off.
i think that says quite a bit.
what happened to the times when the driver played a major part in fast you could go in a particular car?

First of all it is the 360 Challenge Stradale not GT. And the CS did beat once the GT3 in one of their comparos only to lose later so that would make it 1-1. However EVO's test are mostly subjective. In objective terms the CS is quite a bit faster than the gt3 since its the equal of the much better GT3 RS as seen in the identical times on TG test track with the Stig ver.2.

And ferrari is certanly not a one trick pony as you so eloquently put it since it does race the Maserati MC12 in Lemans besides the F1.

So please stop embarasing you fellow Porsche enthusiats with your BS.

Anyway back to the subject at hand the CGT is a tremeondous car, quite stunning and a technological marvel.

In the never ending comparo with the Enzo I'll stick with the Enzo as a proper ferrari fan but i will admit there are a few things more apealing about the CGT: The manual shifter for one, sequential gearboxes are all nice and dandy on a track but for driving pleasure the classic stick shift/manual clutch are still supreme. The comfort is definitivelly better in the CTG and its a targa top to cruise around in style. Design wise the CGT is also a bit cleaner too.

Price however is not an issue here, despite the CGT being cheaper. If you can afford to blow 450K on a car 650k is not that different.

Blech they are in Germany so they probably cheated. I heard they used NOS...two of the big bottles, ended up blowing the welds off the manifold causing catastrophic failure of the passenger floor pannel.

Re: carrera gt; hot or not

After reading the threads and when it all seems to go about lapping the Nordschleife their is a nice surprise for both the Porsche and Ferrari. Its from a little company in holland and they build the machine witch exeeds all expectations. Yes it drove the fastest laptime and it had not 605bhp not 660 bhp no much better..... it had an awesome 270bhp. And yes both suppercars where litterly miles away from his record. It did it 17 seconds quicker then the carrera GT which was faster then an Enzo. The best thing is, this car would be just as practical, more economic and a lot cheaper about 10% of the price compared to an Enzo.
It's called Donkervoort and as you wouldn't expect whithout the bold tyres and radio included as the driver might get bored after 17 seconds of fame...

Re: Carrera GT: hot or not

I love the Carrera GT. The 924 Carrera GT! hahaha... sorry. I just think its amusing no one had mentioned the original. Yes though, I like the new CGT. I hope I get a chance to drive one in the future. I hate the shifter position though. I think it would throw me off too much.
