I respectfully disagree. No race car, especially a Ferrari had shiny paint. These were heavily abused cars, and if you read documentaries about hte races, these cars were washed with gasoline after the race. Gas literally dissolves the paint. And its not like they had show-paint to begon with. If there was damage, it was fixed right there in the garage, pit stop, and spray painted with rattle can.

And as for mechanicals - if the car had a leak, and sprayed oil while raced, nobody cared to clean it. And its not like the car was built, raced once, and retired. Some of them raced for several weeks, so I think weathering is totally appropriate.

Jamme: You are doing a wonderful job, the careful detailing really gives this build that extra. I don't know why people don't comment, maybe there is to much traffic on the server and prefer to use their time watching. I tried to post a reply on your thread and had to wait like 10 min.
Anyway, here I'm showing you some support!

I'm really enjoying this thread.

Re: WIP MFH Ferrari 512S Coda Longa 60 Red Years

I check this thread daily, but as far as comments, I don't want to only say "great", because this work of art deserves more than that, and I usually just don't know what to say.

Don't be so sensitive J-M! just kidding
Watch your view count - it tells the whole story

Great job on getting all those wires in so tightly and neatly
When we see pictures of it done so professionally, it's easy to forget how hard it is to do it so well!

Really a nice job Jamme, we have to remember ever that this's a "craft-kit" but you switch out a clean and detailed job. Once a time I've to ask you to check rims and tyres size: for the info I have they're undersized, BTW the come out great

Re: WIP MFH Ferrari 512S Coda Longa 60 Red Years

Hi Jamme,

I love your washing and drybrushing. I have seen it often from Military-Builders but never realized that Car-Builders use it to.

I think I will try it also because your engine is a small look-a-like of the real one.

Did you use different brands of the same colour for drybrushing or have you lightened the colour with white?

Be sure that I will watch your WIP as close as possible

Best regards

Thomas

Re: WIP MFH Ferrari 512S Coda Longa 60 Red Years

Thank you everybody for your numerous answers.!

For Gotcha313,
I use mostly different colors from the same paint (for the metallics, mostly Model Master)
Sometimes, I also add a little white, it depends.
Thank you for looking;

Jamme

Ferrari 512S, 1970, 12 Hours of Sebring.

And here's the Coda Lunga in the wet at Le Mans in that year as well.

Re: WIP MFH Ferrari 512S Coda Longa 60 Red Years

Hezllo to Everybody,
Hope that you have a nice Week-End...?
Thank's to everybody for the comments, hope they will stay positives....
Here is a small UP!
I first installed a brake line, made of a piece of wire, made the nuts of plasticard, drilled a hole in them, passed the wire throgh the hole and installed the lines (I need to install the other ones)
I also tinted the fuel lines, as someone suggested. Much better isn't it.
Still need to instal the incoming fuel lines, and the trottle system.
I also finished assembling the outlets, painted them in Primer, and installed them to see how it looks like.
2 pictures:

I then removed the outlets, painted them mat white from Gunze.
When dry, I made a very "light" wash, using Burnt Sienna oil paint, diluted with Zippo fuel.
I also made use of Mig pigments on some places to "break" down the white a little bit.
When dry, I installed the outlets.
Still need to meke a light drybrush, make and install the retaining springs under the outlets, and a lot of other things.........
Pictures:

Thank you for Looking,
Enjoy......................... and please don't forget your comments, critics and questions.

Thanks!

Jamme
