Neil... about the CAI
Your car appears to be a 2000+? is this correct? Your MAF looks like mine (black plastic), the kind Henry has is the 99 which had the older smaller diameter alloy MAF. Best bet is to measure the opening for the MAF and the throttle body so we can compare... Hotshot and Place Racing both make CAI's for the 2000+ Here's a pic of mine with an AEM by pass valve fitted in there too.. please excuse the dirty engine bay and greasy prints all over my new chrome CAI.. My MAF sensor seems to mount a little different, but your MAF looks to be the bigger size like mine.. |

Hmm... the 99 and younger cars here had the alloy MAF.
Loosen the clamp from the rubber piping on the throttle body and measure the opening of it. Then loosen the other side of the pipe and measure the opening in the MAF. |

I dont give a rats ass anymore, im buying one designed for the GT. If it doesnt fit it will be a good excuse to fit a full CAT back Poweflow exhaust. Cheers for all the help Ragt20.

Right guys I have decided I am getting a Powerflow custom made CAT back exhaust. I dont have a clue what to ask for, like the size of the piping, ammount of boxes in the system (does that make sense?) etc Any advice would be much appreciated. Ragt20 I can get a full Powerflow CAT back custom made system for only £250! Plus I dont have to wait over a month to get it, and I can choose the tail pipe. I think ill go for a 4" round. Also does anyone know what the standard Decibel level is of the standard system?
Cheers Neil

For exhaust piping, you want somewhere between 2.25" and 2.5" for non-turbo applications. Any larger than that, and you'll start losing low end power due to a lack of back pressure. Any smaller than that, and you'll limit top end performance.
Oh, and you'll want manderel (sp?) bends in preference to crush bends too....

Mandrel bends leave a nice progressive curve throughout the bend...
A crush bend is.. well.. picture bending a piece of pipe over your knee. lol.. |

Thanks for the explanation, KEVIN (P11GT) you have a Powerflow system do you know what type of bends they use?

I think its what youve called mandrel bends, all i know is that they use this nice bit ofhydralic machine which uses curved clamps to bend the piping to the correct angle, a bit like the tool that plumbers use (not the floppy spring thing! you'd have to be Geoff Capes to bend 2.5" dia piping!)
As for the diameter of mine, i think its 2.5" if i recall correctly, its the biggest size they normally carry in stock, but they can go upto 3" but normally need to order that size in. But like Anth said, dont go beyond 2.5" you may loose back pressure. |
