Test vechicels and prototypes is a brilliant ID. You can enter street cars, race cars, Oldtimers,.... this one gets my vote!

well i surely will not be entering if it is open-wheel, no builds planned in the future and i think i already know who would win this anyhow. Alcohol/Tobacco would be a great theme and open to every racing series out there. I still think this is a great subject. Winners or Prototypes is a good idea but i believe that this will lead to alot of argueing about the definition and what can and cant be entered, this is a Motorsport contest, so we would have to have some guide lines on this one.

Looking at this realistically, the theme that would promote the greatest participation would be the Tobacco/Alcohol idea.

No limitation of type of vehicle ie sedan, open wheeler, bike or truck. Remember that if you don't want your model to advertise the theme in a big way, some events were sponsored by them and this could mean just a small door sticker.

I don´t want to get into serious rants here. But - no matter what theme - we choose, we should set the priority that we are in the motorsports section of this forum. So we sholud be able to set a limit to cars that raced or are connected to actual cars that will race (prototypes, etc.) at actual events.

Otherwise we could open a competition for "Hey, lets build a model" in the Car Modeling section. I´m not sure, how feel about it, but this comp should have something to do with motorsports.

So please, no theme that opens up for street modified cars or general muscle cars!

What about movie cars? you can all the way with this. Old race cars to futuristic (I would LOVE to see somebody make the Lexus from Minority report).

Not wanting to get embroiled into any argument, even though I’m perhaps not the most popular on this board, and therefore anything I say will be largely ignored but I still feel that open wheel would make a nice contest.

But I also like the idea of “race winners” as this opens up the contest to so many race car /bike models. And this would allow for so many entrants.

The tobacco /alcohol idea is also good, but this could be optional at the builders discretion. With race winners you select a model, and then the builder can decide to add the additional sponsorship decals.

Race winners also opens this to the “whole” world of motor sport. The ones who like F1 can build F1, those who like to build bikes, rally cars, touring cars etc etc.. It really does open up the contest to so many models, and then anyone who likes to build race cars can enter.

Just my thoughts, I’ll wait for the poll. And then cast my vote.

Yes what said Mike is true but I'll see a little difference on the cointest's appeal:

- Tobacco/alcohol is a "visual" theme that will join all entries, so all entries would have something to do, visually speaking. I don't know if I express myself clear. This concept is really god for a contest to me, fun. Just imagine all finished models with something common.

- Winner/loser ecc. isn't a visual discrimination so you'' able to find out really some different car, and it may be good for a bigger variety.

- I'm not really enthusiast for the open wheel theme but it'll be a great stuff for start something different and unexpected.

No. 2: I have no right to take voice in this discussion because almost one year ago I declared entry in the 80s comp and..... zilch!

No. 3: What ever it is, I think it's a good idea to make sure it has an "advanced builder" version and "standard builder" version i.e. similar to the curbside/engine catagories. The comp should encourage many entries and any restrictions to highly detailed or investment heavy aftermarket part categories might restrict that (any TAMIYA tobacco/alcohol decal kits out there?)

4. I still think OOB is a good method to allow standard entries in a competitive way. Keeps the builder focussed on clean building and good paint jobs and not on accurate scale dims of the leading edge of the rear back twiggle-diffuser blade

5. How about a just a racing bike theme? Must have 2 wheels only? Keep it simple...?

What ever you guys decide on just let me know. I will be more than happy to supply some prizes for the winners. maybe theme appropriate?? I love watching the in progress threads because I don't have a lot of time to build myself. I am just finishing up the GTP Corvette I stated a year ago last March!!
