Some more late nights and early mornings have yielded this much more progress on the alternator... 31 individual parts make up these sub assemblies, if I counted correctly, I think I got 'em all. Probably less than 10 more parts to make for this assembly, (not all are are shown)... Stay tuned... - Mark

So many parts for just one piece. I sure hope you counted right, I would hate for that number to go higher.

Spectacular work as always. A terrific inspiration for what can be done in scale modeling!
So, do you have the rotary table positions for 360/7 memorized by now? What's the smallest size end mill you're using to cut these parts? (Or do you have some other more clever cutting method I haven't figured out yet?) And what may I ask are you using for reference material? Got one in your garage you're pouring over? I'm considering doing the 1/24 Tamiya, updated to series three, LHD and cycle fender, with as much unnecissary machined aluminum as I can squeeze into it. I've found enough on the web to inspire me, but not really enough to detail a build. Any suggestions of where to turn?

I have a friend who built one at the same time I was building the red BDR, a wealth of information there, I still ask him for detail info when I can't find it elsewhere. Plus the internet has many Super 7 sites with helpful people that have sent me info. And most of my friends ply me with anything 7 they come across. There are many good books with lots of pictures, some are rather old, but the pictures stay true. The stuff that is not usually on a Super 7, (like the nitrous system for example), comes from my mechanical background as to how it would logically be done (and I studied up beforehand with a friend who specializes in it at Edelbrock so I made sure I chose an appropriate system). I did pour over one a couple days ago at the L.A. Auto show too... Like any subject, if you dig enough you can find what you need. Also check out a manual for the 1300 engine it uses, look for pictures of Webers and other part manufacturers, that will help you with detailing the engine and bay immensely. I recently did a LHD conversion to the 1/24 kit. (Rotus, I posted it in the Street and Show section here if you want to read the text, below are the pictures. For some reason they are not linked to the original thread anymore.) I swapped the footwells and just flipped the dash and made a new face for it. Not a difficult conversion, but again, this was a simple, relatively "quickie" build too... Remember, the 1/12 is a Caterham, the 1/24 is a Lotus... - Mark ![]() ![]() ![]()

Scratchbuilt Alternator
Finished! Still a couple parts need to be final detail painted, but I'll take care of that after I take it off and before the final assembly, it's just set up to check the alignment of the brackets so the belt will track correctly.
44 individual scratchbuilt parts by my count and 4 custom made decals. Phew, that was fun, now on to other parts... - Mark ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

is that the stock block color
No, but it's not stock either... Should be red from the factory, but this one represents a non-factory built car. - Mark |

Re: Blue Seven (Parts 2)
Increible work Mark. I was browsing your photobucket and showed the pics to my Dad who was a mechanical engineer, and he was stunned. He thought for sure you were using an upscaled ruler.
I hope you're keeping tally of how many individual scratchbuilt parts there are so you can give us a count when you finish.

Re: Blue Seven (Parts 2)
I can honestly not see how you can improve on this level.. it just seems real... I think when it's finished we'll see that you can press the starter button and the engine will start running.....
