How about seeing somebody in concert. Dumbest idea I've ever heard of and only idiots do that! It's much cheaper to just buy the CD.
Oh yeah, if you've spent money on a nice speaker/surround sound system, you're an idiot. Why spend that much money on that stuff when it's cheaper to just put on some headphones?
You ever been to a broncos game? One of the best experiences in my life, next to losing my virginity. You ever been to a good concert? Another fun moment in life. Do you own a surround sound system? Definitely worth the $350 i paid and the two surround systems in my dad's house, each worth a good $3000 is more than enjoyable for my dad and any guests that enter his house.

I agree with muscletang, IMO concerts and sporting events are GENERALLY a huge waste of money. I can hardly justify the 15-20 bucks for a cd let alone 50+ to see someone in concert.

That's why I've only been to one real "concert" in my life (as in a music event held in a large-scale venue) and that was NIN several weeks ago. I wasn't a fan of paying $60 for a ticket, and that almost kept me from going (especially because the TD/Banknorth Garden is a sucky venue for heavier music.) Up to that point, the only shows I had been to were the $10-$15 club settings that other favorite bands of mine have played -- of course, while lacking the sophistication and technical capabilities of the big guys, the small venues make up for it in pure energy and involvement.

That being said, I still think many of these systems are a waste of money to some extent (and I've made valid reasons why I feel that way in my posts) but in the end, it is YOUR money, and you can blow it any way you want. My initial beef with this whole thread was to attack the whole mugging-people-for-a-GAME-system-thing. Somehow HOW people spend their money got rolled into it.

What concerts are ya'll goin to?I've never spent more than $20 for an awesome concert:

Chevelle, Sevendust, Rob Zombie, Mudvayne, Shawdows Fall, Perfect Circle, Blink 182, Taproot, and the liost goes on...

Not all, but mostbands are so much better live.

OK. I've officially found what I believe to be the largest, most expansive videogame offering ever. Talk about excessive Suddenly a grand for an Xbox doesn't seem so extreme.

Got an extra $45,000 laying around?

Re: Holy hell -- it's a STUPID VIDEOGAME SYSTEM!!

I"ve been to two concerts. Probably the most memorable days of my life. They were worth the measly $40 a ticket that I got an awesome deal on.

Concert number one major bands Metallica and Godsmack. Really the only ones to care about. Nothing to special with the smaller bands.

The favorite of the two would have to be the Greed Day concert back in July when it came to a nearby city. It was quite fun. But I do look back and realize that I did miss out on some work on those two days because I had requested them off. SO instead of making about $120 I lost about $300. Not one of the smartest things i've done, but it was pretty worth it to have experienced that.

As for gaming systems I do like them all. I have pretty much everything. No i'm not spoiled, i'm just a hardcore gamer. I have almost everything starting form the Nintendo. The original NES. Also an Atari from 1977. It's actually my brothers. Yes it still works, no I do not play it. I in fact just hooked up my NES today and played a little duck hunt.

I have a PS2, and loved it for the 3 years I had it. Played Halo 2 with a friend and was sold on the Xbox. The PS2 has it's very awesome games along with the Xbox. They both have there ad and disadvantages. Granted I don't play my PS2 anymore because I just like my Xbox more and think it is a better gaming system than PS2. Allthough the PS2 does have its share of greatness.

I do not have an Xbox 360 as of yet. Once the 2nd generation of it comes out, I will be getting it. I've heard reviews and stuff on the PS3 and hear it will be a powerful system and heard it will be better than the 360. But that is all talk as of right now. We won't know for sure until the real deal comes out.

We have our Sony fans and we have our Microsoft fans. Sony fans will dis the Xbox and Microsfot fans with dis the Playstation. It's just how this world is and we seem to bitch and fight about which is better, when to be quite honest with ya, they are both really the same machine in a way. They both keep us busy for hours upon hours, they releive stress and pissed-offness, and they can turn a not so fn day, into a fun day. They both play DVD's and they both cost money.

IMO these two gaming systems are just a way of two different type of fans to have a reason to fight and put down the other fan. I'm done with my rant. Have a nice evening.

It's entertainment.

I completely disagree with Muscletang about people who go to concerts and sports events. At first I thought you were being sarcastic to prove the point that there are different forms of entertainment. You can't get all the memories of a concert from a CD. You don't get the memories of a basketball game by watching it on tv from your couch. There is real entertainment value from sitting at half court and seeing these athletes, or performers in person and being part of a group of thousands of people who appreciate it like you do. You may think I'm an idiot if I spend 200$ on half court tickets, but I think you're the idiot if you enjoy the game more on your couch.

If you haven't the time or money for the latest video games, then let it be. Maybe that person doesn't have the time/money/concern to do whatever it is you do for fun. We all enjoy different things, so let some rich guy spend his 13,000$ on the x box 360. If its worth it to him to have it 2 weeks sooner, then you should just piss off. It isn't your money.

But if some poor guy wants to rob him of his newly purchased video game system, I see that to be truly pathetic.

I think we just need to have an open mind about what other people enjoy. I may not want to spend all my money on these things, but I won't call the people who do, idiots.

Re: Holy hell -- it's a STUPID VIDEOGAME SYSTEM!!

PS2 vs. Xbox = Import vs. Domestic

Each can have all the facts they want and bash the other nonstop but the feud will never end. I personally think both the ps3 and 360 will both have some advantages over the other. Thats how it always is. You just get the one that suits your gaming style/needs the best.

I was being sarcastic and I think some people thought I wasn't. There's nothing wrong with going to concerts or sports events. I've been to a few concerts and I've been to a few sporting events too. What I was trying to say is anybody can point out the negative for spending money on something and I think you drive it home with this next quote.

I agree with this 100%. What I was trying to say in my last post, to each his own.

Yeah, but I like domestics and imports. Well, not domestics, classics, I guess they're called. Xbox is a good system, but it's bigger and has a lot less of decent game titles. Now...who knows, although the line up so far sucks. Ive seen it up till march.

Systems 2strokebloke owns:Atari 2600, Intellivision, NES, Sega Genisis, Play Station.
Systems 2strokebloke will never own: X-Box, X-Box 360, Sega CD.
I can't believe that they're already coming out with the next wave of systems - what are they trying to do? Destroy the industry like they did in '84?

I've barely broken the systems I do have, why would I buy new ones?

Re: Holy hell -- it's a STUPID VIDEOGAME SYSTEM!!

heres a way to use your new game system...

a friend of mine told me this. a bunch of guys reserved a 360 using loose change they got off other people.
after they picked up the 360 at best buy they went outside beside the long line of people waiting for a chance to get one too. they guys put the xbox on the ground, brought out baseball bats and smashed the brand new system into pieces in front of the whole crowd. the guys walked off laughing as the rest of the crowd stared in shock

kinda a waste of money, but the look on people's faces must've been priceless
