Re: 1/24 scale Porsche 934 from Tamiya!

Its disappointing when you find you can't build a accurate replica because of missing decals.

Studio 27 have just released decals for 8 different variants of this car so there is at least a choice of livery.

I agree that it is dissapointing that they didn't include some pretty basic sponsorship decals, its not like they are tobacco logo's or anything.

But as far as "Another very expensive Disappointing model" you have got to be kidding me right?..... This is easily the LEAST expensive new kit I have purchased in many, many years. Lets keep things in perspective.

I just purchased 1kit from HobbySearch, www.1999.co.jp for 23GBP including shipping! The pound is strong against the yen at the moment.

Okay lets keep things in perspective! Here you are buying a model of the famous 934 Jagermeister porsche! you thought wow thats pretty good value! by the time you come home, you start doing your research and then you start noticing Hmm no Dunlop decals...okay no biggy then you notice no Shell decals...now it is becoming a biggy because i want the car thats its supposed to be...thats why i bought it in the first place! now i have to pay more money on a replacement set of decals....thats another 12 dollars plus postage and packaging! So its around 15-20 dollars extra! Enough perspective?

Re: 1/24 scale Porsche 934 from Tamiya!

On the other hand...it might just be something completely out of Tamiya's hands! It might have something to do with Porsche! If i was Tamiya i would like to make a big deal on the 50th anniversary of the 911 (and re-release all porsche's Tamiya ever made--Tamiya's business model trough the years!)...But maybe that might just steal Porsche's thunder in the official Factory Teams return to Le Mans! That might be sponsored by Shell and Dunlop Maybe? if thats the story....I will be eating "humble pie"

Really???? Are you completely new to modeling because that would be the only excuse for the ignorance flowing from you keyboard.

First of all there are no images of Dunlop or Shell logos on the box art. That should have been your first clue.

Second this has nothing to do with Porsche and everything to do with licensing agreements between Tamiya, Dunlop and Shell.

Just as Tamiya refuses to pay expensive licensing cost to Goodyear they have chosen not to pay them to Dunlop or Shell in the interest of keeping the overall kit price down. So the extra money you are complaining about spend for after market fill in decals is likely still cheaper then if Tamiya had paid for a proper license and included the cost in the kit price.

Really getting tired of reading complaints about prices and costs. Everyone just needs to sit down, shut up and build before openning their pie hole to complain!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: 1/24 scale Porsche 934 from Tamiya!

If leaving out decals rather than paying exorbitant license fees results in a cheaper kit then that is all good to me..... Especially when you consider that a lot of these 934's will be built with aftermarket decals. Why pay more for a kit to include accurate decals, when you're only going to throw that decal sheet out ?

Re: 1/24 scale Porsche 934 from Tamiya!

The Dunlop and Shell decals should be easy to make for anybody that has made decals like I have. The tire decals would be hard though because inkjet decals are not very opaque. Hopefully some tire only decals will be available. We should contact Indycals about these, he makes great decals and allot of fill in and tire decals.

Re: 1/24 scale Porsche 934 from Tamiya!

Studio27 has PE coming out that has the Dunlop tire stencils. I for one am glad that the tires do not have names as the ones I plan on building used Goodyears.
