Re: Revell Ferrari 458 Italia (view inside the box)
I think the way to solve this argument is for all of us to hold hands and walk to the nearest model shop and sing, "We are the world".

Hell, I could've built BOTH versions in the time I wasted reading this thread.
Does anybody still build models or are they just argued about?!

Re: Revell Ferrari 458 Italia (view inside the box)
I just visited my LHS and saw they had quite a few of the new kit releases. Had to pick up this kit after seeing the price. In my LHS, priced roughly the same as the old Tamiya Taisan GT2....for a brand new Ferrari kit, it was a huge deciding factor for me. So given the choice between Revell or Fujimi I would pick Revell.
Bodyshell looks to be made of a slightly higher quality plastic than the usual Revell soft-grey plastic. I've a few Fujimi Ferrari's yet to be built too so I can't compare but as a general first impression of a kit, I'm happy. Scanned decal sheet:

Decals for the mesh parts? WTF?
The under hood decals look great though.

Re: Revell Ferrari 458 Italia (view inside the box)
Thank you for the scan of the decals, KevHw.
I quite like them! Note how much more Revell give in terms of choice (and for the parts bin for future builds ) - the tach choices are basically the same as Fujimi but in terms of license plates and, more importantly, brake caliper decals Revell wins. Usually the quality of the decals themselves is also excellent.

Re: Revell Ferrari 458 Italia (view inside the box)
Well. There may have been a classic "failure to communicate" in this thread, but it was an interesting discussion just the same.
Thought I'd make an observation in one of the newer threads, but it's really more germane to this one: I think there's a general consensus - at least among the more reasonable participants - that while Revell's wheels and brakes are a little coarse, and there's some question about the sideview mirrors, it pretty much puts the Fujimi kit in a poodle skirt and bends it over for overall detail. A little more lighter fluid for the coals, then: if you check out the front fasciae between Revell's and Fujimi's body shells, you'll see that Revell's extends a little deeper, further below the rocker panel line than Fujimi's, net effect being a slightly taller (or deeper) front intake opening. Not sure, but I think I trust Fujimi's dimensions a bit more on this one. On the other hand, Revell's material quality certainly seems to be taking a few strides. Their body shell is just as smooth and clean, and arguably less marred by sink marks. I'm thinkin' the same kind of bash-up some of you have mentioned already... **edit** Actually had another look, and while what I described is there, the difference is much more marginal than I first recalled. Part of it comes from a lower spoiler lip right under the front perimeter that Revell molded in, but Fujimi omitted. Last edited by Chuck Kourouklis; 02-02-2011 at 02:13 AM. Reason: Update |

Re: Revell Ferrari 458 Italia (view inside the box)
Hey, man, it's all good -
it's just that this is purportedly a detail-oriented hobby, last I checked. Trust me, there's plenty of modeling commentary and conduct far more deserving of a lecture than whether or not an individual is too passionate or too casual about details, and you don't have to look very hard for it. Say, for instance, the whole fantasy that anybody who criticizes a kit is necessarily too busy doing so to get anything built - complete and total bunk. How unfortunate to find from a recent hobby magazine interview that evidently, it's also a fairy tale some prominent hobby executives tell themselves to sleep better at night. With what some of these guys have accomplished, they should know better. Last edited by Chuck Kourouklis; 02-03-2011 at 01:27 AM. Reason: typo |
