Re: Novitec Rosso Ferrari 599

midmazar, thanks

ben, car modeling can't make a living in malaysia, i think u should know that
i work in advertising, i can do what ever i want when i'm free, but not modeling, so most of the free time i browse people's wip and search for reference pics, i'm still learning, not pro, i built very slow, approx 1-2 kit a year

Re: Novitec Rosso Ferrari 599

small progress on the body, the door handle look fake

so i carefully thinned down, using chisel and needle

primed, look better now

side vent, after sanding & puttying, some holes & scratches are visible but i decided to cover that after priming, easier to see

after 2 round of priming & careful sanding, this is what i got, looks ok but not perfect

also primed the whole body with mr surfacer 1200

comments are welcome

Re: Novitec Rosso Ferrari 599

How did you apply the Mr Surfacer? I have some but am not sure if it can go through an airbrush

Re: Novitec Rosso Ferrari 599

i use tamiya HG spray-work III 0.3mm airbrush, thinning ratio is 1:2.5 (1 surfacer : 2.5 thinner) yes, its quite thin so i usually need at least 3 coat but the result is smooth

Re: Novitec Rosso Ferrari 599

As, I say before great job.
I don't stop to watch it, again and again...
By the way, what thinner are you use for Mr Surfacer? It's tamiya x-20 are suitable?
Thanks for sharing.

Re: Novitec Rosso Ferrari 599

nope, X-20 is enamel thinner, Mr Surfacer is lacquer base, I use Mr. Thinner or Gaia thinner, both are lacquer thinner

Simply amazing work. You make it sound very easy with this. You can be sure that I'll be accompanying for a day who know how to make one too. Congratulations, keep posting.

Re: Novitec Rosso Ferrari 599

thanks guys for the encouraging words,

some updates, but not too progressive as i'm busy with work recently

the rear lips, first trace the shape from the rear diffuser, then cut out from 0.5mm styrene, i draw line to mark the bending line

clamp it, blow with hairdryer to soften the plastic so i can bend it without breaking the thin styrene

slowly bend it to get the right shape

rough shape

unfortunately 0.5mm is correct thickness but TOO fragile to work with, and i should NOT use thin cement as it weaken the styrene and break it, actually i break it more than 3 times, i think i've to redo in thicker styrene and slowly thin it down

frustrated, i continue other easier parts, the side vent is too shallow if looked from the side, so i add some styrene sheet to make it deeper

reinforce inside, also it's easier for me to position & glue the mesh later

and the rear spoiler is almost done, but i felt the shape is incorrect and too small

the spoiler bracket is made from leftover sprue runner, as i felt the styrene sheet that i had is too soft, first i drill holes, then slowly sand to get the right shape, then i cut it out and slowly sand to get the correct size and fitting, very difficult to get everything glue symmetrically if there's a slight dislocation, as you can see, the position i glue is not centralise and slightly towards the right side.
