He was talking about my comments at the start of this thread - which was originally about GTR #07R being for sale. If you look back to the first page, you'll see that I learned this car was purchased by AMG following the 1995 BPR season and was used to help develop the CLK-GTR.

I looked close and I think it is a < symbol not a bracket. Oh I love all the pics and info.

I think you might be right about that. If you look at the photo that Drew posted of the plaque, it's exactly the same.

It is a "<". Seen it. Not suppose to be Grammatically Correct. All manufacturers have done this to indicate "less than". Real manufacturers do this for regulatory reasons. Compare this symbol to the parentheses elsewhere and you will see the difference.

I missed this before, but I just thought I would clarify - the Christie's Auction car is a road car, not a GTR. The chassis number is #011 and it was built in 1994. It received the LM-Kit or HDF package in 1998 during a complete refit at the McLaren Cars factory.

The car did sell at Christie's Auciton - to quote from a previous post of tvrfreak's in a different thread:

Quote:

535,000 GBP was the hammer price
102,720 GBP was the 19.5% buyer's premium
--------------
637,720 GBP Total.

At today's exchange rate ($1.6836 to the pound), that works out to 1,073,665.25 USD, which is pretty much in line with what these cars are commanding in Europe these days.
BTW: 11R is one of the Orange GTR's - there's at least one or two threads here on that car.

Not a huge issue, but I didn't want anyone to be confused.

Re: Most Gorgeous F1 ever for sale

Hello,

someone can tell us why the ad change on http://www.carclassic.com/html/CW33.htm ?

They now speak about 310,000$ of bill paid to McLaren Cars and 1,350,000$ of asking price ?

Ciao
Phil

The car that is for sale at the start of this thread is chassis #07R. The ex-Jacadi 5th placed Le Mans car.

I had the privilege to actually drive in this car at Knockhill Circuit in Scotland in 1998, when the previous owner, an oil-industry tycoon in Scotland owned the car. IIRC it came in from France and arrived painted orange and silver. I actually had one of my 1/12th scale Mclaren's painted to match the car as it was when I drove in it ...

Lined up beside this behemoth you see three other scales (1/43rd, 1/64th and 1/87th from Minichamps)

A close-up of the front compartment clearly showing Kenwood's Autochanger and the Clutch/Brake Fluid reservoirs. Even the tyre pressure stickers are readable! This section, although not captured on camera, is sheeted in 1/12th scale carbon film.

If you look closely enough you can see the shadow of the F1-logo'd Saint Gobain glass sticker on the rear quarter window!

And a final shot. Nice shiny gold leafed engine bay.

Re: Most Gorgeous F1 ever for sale

Hello Murray,

thank you for these infos, you're a lucky man

Just two questions :
1) when you drove the car, is it rebuilt or not ?
2) you said : "it came in from France and arrived painted orange and silver", can you explain more please ? Is it located in France for example ?

Ciao
Phil

I don't really understand the question #1.

Hope this answers both questions.

The car was basically the 'standard' GTR with open exhausts, slicks and a slab of foam rubber making up a passenger "seat" to the driver's left. The car had, however, been resprayed from the Jacadi liveried blue to a two-tone orange and silver before it was brought to Scotland by the previous owner. The guy who bought it and brought it Scotland, where it was based during his ownership, didn't like the orange and silver and had it repainted after I drove in it in Papaya Orange.

Thank you.

Unfortunately these photos don't do it any justice whatsoever. The paintwork and rebuild, which included carbon detailing, 'fake' alacantara and leather (dark blue and orange), real gold leaf, the pedals being drilled rather than 'just' embossed, etc., etc. was conducted by a good friend of mine in Scotland, Mark Forrest who's won some pretty impressive modelling awards in the past. Top Modeller. Top Geezer too!

I actually noticed in this forum another custom 1/12th F1, which has, as the GTR I drove in, the airvents drilled above the front wheel arches. I'd have liked that too, but didn't suggest of it when it was being built. Unfortunately.

Are you referring to the one I buildt??????

It is in pictured in it's own tread a while back ago.

I'm currently working on a 1:12 custom LM.
Can't find a decent rear wing for it.....

If you built the one I saw, then that's the one. Nice work indeed!
