Re: What's problem about Hiroboy.com, I can't see my order

I've had no problem buying "touch up" quantities of PPG, Omni and Dupont 1k urethanes from Finishmasters. A 2 oz. bottle costs about $14. It's reduced 4 - 1, so it's actually very economical. A bottle will cover two cars, plus. The store has several codebooks that I use to select the color I want, either by code or by eye. The codes go back about ten years; for earlier cars it's strictly by eye. They mix the paint while as I wait.

Didymus,
$14 for a 2 oz bottle of paint, to me that is not very economical. I buy Dupont Paints all the time for people having problems getting them in small
quantities. The last time I bought Dupont ( Hot Hues ) color it was like $8.00 for a 2 oz. Also in your post you said that " It's reduced 4 - 1 " is that the clear coat or the base coat? Are you saying that it is 4 parts paint - 1 part reducer?

Guys that is reading this, if there is a paint color that you need email me, I will see what I can do to help you out.

Great info that will definitely be bookmarked!

Color-picking (or matching) by eye is a tricky problem. Even after careful calibration, every computer monitor gives a slightly different rendition. "Close" is the best you can hope for if you're trying to match colors using your computer.

Even using the books at Finishmaster, I've been surprised by the result. No matter what you do, if you can't find the original code and match it, your result will probably be a little "off."

Here's a little story:

I decided to paint my Fujimi Speedster early Porsche "Ruby Red." I could not find the color code anywhere, and even if I could, Finishmasters can't match codes that old. (Maybe some of those on-line sources can.) So on-line I found a few photos of Speedsters that looked like they might be Ruby Red. Still on-line, I used one of those paint sites to find a chip that seemed to match the red in the photos. I printed it out, and it looked perfect.

Then I went to Finishmasters and found a Toyota code that matched my print-out. Great! Or so I thought. But when I sprayed it, it looked lighter. It did turn out to be a gorgeous dark red, and it looks amazing on the car. But it definitely doesn't match my printed-out chip.

I don't know why there's a difference, since I haven't pursued it with Finishmasters. Maybe next time I go in, I'll take the bottle and compare it with the Toyota code I selected. It's possible that the chip in the code book is slightly darker than actual paint. Or my eyes; the lighting at Finishmasters is very poor, so comparison is difficult. Or... the guy who mixed it could have screwed up.

The lesson for me is: "Never leave the store until you've compared the color you want - preferably a chip - with the actual paint!"

Unfortunately, you can't do that on line.

No, just the opposite: one part base (color) coat to 3 - 4 parts reducer. (It's very thick stuff!) Reduced, a 2 oz. bottle produces about 7 oz, or 200 ml, of sprayable paint. It also covers very, very well, so few coats are needed.

At $7 for 100ml, it's a little cheaper than Tamiya. Not as cheap as hardware store paint, but not outrageous, either.
