Re: Sard Supra Drifter
Do you have an air conditioner compressor to fit on the motor? If so, then by all means use that stock dash, otherwise, the race dash would suit the build better. But you did say it was a street car...well sort of. Street cars usually have a dashboard.

Re: Sard Supra Drifter
Hello chaps,
Another quicky from my work bench! Not to much exciting to say, I've been working on finishing up the engine mods as well as playing with the suspension. I spent a lot of time on getting the wheels to fit properly because the Gram Lights have a much more negative offset then the wheels that came for the SARD. So with sucking in 3mm in the rear and 2mm in the front, of wheel, I was able to fit and sort out the rest of the suspension. But today I thought that I would share with you a couple of quick snap shots of the final mock up of the engine before paint. I did some more work to it, to get it ready. All the taps where made for oil and fuel lines. I also scratched a fuel pressure gauge and mounted it on to the back end of the fuel rail. As you can see the front of the cam cover was opened up as well, it will be to show off some cam gears! I also thickened up the stock radiator and reshaped it a little to make it look more like an aftermarket performance one. As for the intake horn on the turbo, I'm not sure if I am going to keep it or try and find something else. The problem is that its smaller then what I was hoping for, so to me it doesn't look to good. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for checking in, with a little bit more clean up, this engine should start to see some paint! I always look forward to your comments.....

Re: Sard Supra Drifter
]Hey everyone,
Well I know that it has been some time since my last update. I'm stuck at the very slow part of any build, the painting. So with that taking a long time I thought that I would share with you guys a bit of a teaser, just to show you that I havent forgotten about you. ![]() Though you should know that all of these pieces are not quite finished just yet. They all still need some more paint detailing and washes to make them complete. So if something doesnt look complete, thats cause its not. ![]() Hope you enjoy........ ![]() Here is a collection of some engine parts that I have done so far. Items include main drive pulley set, turbo, fan, battery, intake assembly, turbo manifold, modified radiator, and a scratch built oil filler cap. ![]() Here is a close up of the intake assembly. ![]() And a better look at the turbo. I am especially proud of the fact I was able to pull off the purple anodize for the turbo horn. ![]() ![]() A some items from the suspension system. ![]() A set of Bilstein Coilovers just for you Alan. ![]() ![]() The rear suspension assembly. ![]() And finally the cage was painted up as well. Well that all you get today, like I said this is just a teaser. I have a lot more items painted up, but are not complete yet. Hopefully everything will look as good as I would like them to. I will update again once I have more completed.

Re: Sard Supra Drifter
I looks like you have nailed the colors for the engine parts. The turbo looks accurate and that anodize is really going to POP!

Re: Sard Supra Drifter
Ok so another sneak peak at whats happening on my bench.
I finished up all the body work that I had planned. I originally had more planned, but the more I had thought about it the more I liked the idea of keeping it simple. The whole less is more idea. Anyways, I went ahead and filled in all the areas that were for the tow hooks, racing fuel filler hole, kill switches, and antenna hole. I also widened the exhaust cut out to fit the muffler as well as smoothed out the body by removing the body rivets and made the removable rear quarter panels blended into the body to make it look whole. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Due to the rear hatch having a lip on the end of it, it kept the GT wing from sitting flush on the hatch. So I made some "ramps" so that I can mount the wing on flush. ![]() ![]() I also finished up the engine bay, its not quite how I had hoped it would turn out, however it will work. ![]() ![]() ![]() Well there you have it, not much but you get the idea. The engine is almost finished and the front and rear suspension assemblies are all finished, as well as many more odds and ends. Now all that's left is to finish up painting and the final assembly. And as soon as this bit of English weather that we have been having all week lifts up I can get right on that.

Re: Sard Supra Drifter
Stunning......absolutely gorgeous work Bob. Did you use All clad to paint the shiny bits, intake (looks awesome), exhaust, pullys...? Then Tamiya clear colours over the top...? And the purple anodising......THAT looks freakin' amazing...What's the tip there.. cheers mate Greg

Re: Sard Supra Drifter
I like the progress. Turbo looks fantastic. But with all the detail your doing, why not cut the pullies out and use a belt material?

Re: Sard Supra Drifter
@Greg: Thanks buddy! Yes you are correct, it is Alclad Polished Aluminum. You are also correct in that the throttle body and pulleys are Alclad with Tamiya's Clear Blue over it.
Now as for the Purple, that's where the tricky part starts. I started with the same Alclad. Then I put my compressor and brush on low settings and in VERY thin layers I applied Model Masters Purple Pearl. The layers have to be thin to keep the Alclad shinning through with out applying too much paint. Once that is finished, on the same settings as before, I applied SUPER thin layers of Model Masters Hot Pink Pearl. Only build up enough to where the pearl in the pink reflects back, but without applying so much that it changes the color of the purple. It doesnt show as well in photograph as it does in person but the effect is quite realistic. And let me tell you, there were many many many test pieces before I found the correct color and combination that worked. Hope that this made sense, if not let me know and I will try to explain better. Quote:

Re: Sard Supra Drifter
Ahah.....Yes, the explanation is perfect Bob.
![]() My problem is, the lack of an air-brush.... I've survived so long without the need for one...I think I just found a need. ![]() You did a perfect job on the turbo-horn, it does look spectacular. Many thanks buddy. cheers Greg ![]()
