i have to go with the 3rd generation camaro. just looks the meanest of them all and quite possibly the easiest camaro to build. i mean you can run low 13's for under $5k

How much does that engine alone cost you?

I know you could probably find one out of a wrecked F-body or Vette for less than $5k...

you can swap in a LT1 out of a wrecked 4th gen or Vette for about 1800-2200 w/computer.

Or you can build the current motor.

Vortec TBI Coversion Kit $1200
Comes with:
Vortech Heads complete with Valves and springs
Aluminum TBI intake manifold
Complete gasket set
Spark Plugs
Head/Intake bolts
Exhaust manifold and EGR heat tube which allows you to retain your emmision controls.

Good for 30 horsepower.

Edelbrock Performer Plus CamKit for '400ci $150. Yeah, I know it says for 400ci but its only a camshaft, it doesnt know its going into a 350.
Duration Intake 214 Exhaust 214 Max lift .442 Exhause .442

Still 50 statelegal, and probably good for another 20 horsepower.

Edelbrock Headers $320-350
Good for probably another 20 horsepower.

That right there is only $1700, and gains you nearly 70 horsepower... Say add another $300 for a nice new gear ratio for the rear like a 3.73 ratio. Thats $2000, that should be enough to get you into the high 13's and consistant low 14's.

Theoretically speaking that is.

Gotta love Chevy... so cheap to go much faster.

Spend another say, $400-600 on a fresh rebuild on the motor. And you can attain all the horsepower the motor gave stock plus all the goodies you just added on.

And since you are rebuilding, perfect time to think about stroking the motor. That can only improve performance.

Eagle makes a 383 Stroker kit for $1200, comes with all that you would need for a Stroker upgrade. That should gain you some impressive Horsepower gains not to mention mad torque too.

Along with the 64cc Head, it should have a 9.7:1 Compression ratio. Still street friendly. This should put the car deep into the 13 second area.

So far the damage is $2300 for just a fresh rebuild and gears or $3200 for the stroker kit and gears.

Hypothetically speaking... that should make for sweet car.

Then theres going to a TPI setup... thats basically just another intake but all the rest of the goodies still apply.

Ok, enough from me.

In 67 there was no Z28 model. Z28 was orginally an RPO code. If you ordered a Camaro with RPO Z28 it had the 302, suspension, etc. It wasn't till 68 that Z28 became a model.

RPO stands for Regular Production Order. Like the 98 and up Camaros with RPO Y2Y, are SS Camaros.

Oh, I voted for 4th gens. It has one of the best engines ever with the LS1 (especally the 01-02 LS1's), it is the best handling Camaro stock, and adding RPO 1LE to a 4th gen gets you basically a race car.

ordering 1LE on any camaro with that code basically gave you a race car for that production year , including even the third gens

AHHH, Nostalgia!
If you weren't a teenager during the muscle car era, you might not understand it!
I had a 69 350 ci. sporting a Pearl White paint that glowed.
Add to that a custom Black Lace overlay instead of the standard stripes
The Black & White Houndstooth interior really set it off.
Keystone mag wheels rounded it out. No one had a sharper car!
I get bummed when I think about totaling it....

BUT, I now have a 69 Charger w / 87,000 original miles sitting around for ten years now. Really need some time to restore it right.
