Re: WIP Tamiya Mclaren Mp4/4

Johnny,

looks great, I am suprised too as I didnt think you would get a good white by spraying over the red. Good effort. If you can try and use some polish on the paint when its completely dry - you should get rid of that 'orange peel' effect and it will improve it 100%.

Dont worry about not using the Fluoro red, this still looks good and is another classic colour scheme in my opinion.

keep it up matey!

Zubski,

We use the term 'Orange Peel' to describe the textured finish you sometimes get after spraying bodywork. There are many reasons for it including, ambient temperatures, damp conditions, poor surface preparation etc.

Ideally when we spray the final top coat on any project wether it be a real car or a model, you want to achieve a smoother finish as possible, almost mirror like is what we aim to achieve.

You can see in Johnny's pics a very slight texture on his finished top coat, with a little polishing this can be removed no problem though.

Re: WIP Tamiya Mclaren Mp4/4

AHHHH!!!!
When i clearcoated the body and let it dry i began to polish it when i was polishing a section of the body it removed a bit of paint that was there, so im like no problem and i began to fill the white in bit by bit to get the exact thickness of the coat but then the white began to turn red ( remeber how i sprayed the red before the white ) i dont know how it tore threw the coat of silver i put over the red but it did and now it looks awful(( i dont know what to do, im so pissed.. Can anyway give me some ideas? What im thinking is let it dry and put white util the red is gone then let it dry again and sand it then clear coat and polish.

heres a pic of it..

Re: WIP Tamiya Mclaren Mp4/4

Looks great so far, Johnny. Nice detail on the steering wheel. Make sure you burnish the bare metal foil down against the edges of the undertray. I usually use a Q tip or a toothpick to do this. Then you can cut off the excess with a fresh X-Acto blade.
