Re: Kawaskaki ZX-RR ´03

Hi guys and thanks for the comments, hopefully I'll post pics during sunday or monday.

Robrex, the paint is Kawasaki Candy Lime Green (KAW-CLG) I think I've used one fourth of the bottle for this kit...

Shouldn't the paint be Kawasaki Lime Green Solid? That's what I ordered from Hiroboy for my 03 ZX-RR. I don't think it's supposed to have that pearl look.

Re: Kawaskaki ZX-RR ´03

Well, Jayll...what can I say more than you seem to be absolutely right... I guess I just ordered what was in stock at Hiroboy.com without having a closer look at my ref pics. It will brake my heart to strip that beautiful paint off but thanks for pointing that out, I really appreciate it.

Re: Kawaskaki ZX-RR ´03

Instead of posting WIP pictures ( ) I'll turn this into a Zero Base Paints advertisment. Here are some pictures of the Kawasaki Candy Lime Green paint covered with two wet coats of Zero 2K Clear.

Now I'll sit back and try to figure out what to do about this problem...

Re: Kawaskaki ZX-RR ´03

That would be an idea but nah, I'm a GP boy, I'll strip it and repaint.

Re: Kawaskaki ZX-RR ´03

Joel,

Were you happy with the Zero paint - apart from the pearl issue? In most of the pictures of other car and bike builds I've seen so far the paint looks a little coarse, or textured...maybe I'm just getting too used to seeing the big 1/6th stuff?

Re: Kawaskaki ZX-RR ´03

After putting on two wet coats of 2K Clear it is smooth as a babys butt...
I have absolutely no bad things to say so far aout this range. I put the flourescent red from Zero on to the Spiderman M1 cowls yesterday and it seems to be at the same level.

Re: Kawaskaki ZX-RR ´03

Ok, so the paint has arrived from Hiroboy (my hat off for that) and new layers of green has been applied on top of the clear. I had some dust particles that I thought I was able to sand off but they are still visible through the solid green. Will try to take them away before applying the clear.

Re: Kawaskaki ZX-RR ´03

Ok, after eight sorrows and seven disappoinments I'm finally done with some progress. I would first like to send a thank you to Jayll for pointing out the mistake with the Candy Lime Green and a big thanks to Steve Hemming at Hiroboy.com for the VERY kind gesture shipping out some Solid Lime Green before I had the time to say damn. Thanks to you both.

So, to fix the green issue I just sprayed the solid green paint on top of the pearl one. Put on a new coat of clear and I was home safe. The new green covered the old one perfectly.

I first thought I'd mask and spray some black on the lower cowl where I was to put some CF but then I changed my mind. I was afraid to get a ridge between black and green forcing me to put yet another coat of clear on before I could start decalling this monster up. I took a shot at trying to put the cf on without a dark base. It turned out great in my opinion.

All decals besides the CF are supplied with the kit. CF is from Crazy Modeler. Kit decals went out without problems, they are quite few and small. CM carbon fibre decals was a pleasure to work with and a new aquaintance. Went on well and conformed great with some decal solution and the heat from the old hair dryer. Decals are yet to be clear coated.

Thanks for looking.
/Joel
