How many times do you see people pulling Need For Speed Underground on the streets? I mean, lets be completely 100% honest, when was the last time you did a circut race on the streets, in traffic, ignoring stoplights and stuff like that? Yes, I know that touge or downhill drift or what the fuck ever is slowly starting to come into its own in certain areas of the US, and my understanding is that the new Need For Speed (Carbon) is gonna be following a general idea of downhill racing/drifting, but lets again be honest, when it comes to street racing, the only thing that really does matter is acceleration.
Well, to be honest, the only reason that all that happens on the streets is light to light "racing" is because most of us don't have the balls or skills to do anything else.

The stop light grand prix is the simplest thing to do.

but see I'm not talking about street racing, I'm speaking in general, I do go to autocrosses, granted I havent been for a while, but I enjoy it because it's much more fun than going straight and it is ,to me, a different and better kind of fast where you get to see all the aspects of the car.

Then for you, it is about more than straight line speed. But for me, who street races, and doesn't do autox or go to track days or shit like that, and the most twisty driving I get is when I take the back way into Como or go on a power plant run, straightline useable street power and speed is more important. Like I said, its all relative.

I don't know how much horsepower I'm pushing. But yeah, I have beat those cars... Some people just can't launch/shift... what have you. like the rx8... you have to wind those engines to the redline to make use of it's power. The same with the rsx. The Gt stang was pre...98 I think... not sure exactly what year. But I have beaten atleast 2 of those. But one of them had FIVE kids in it... Besides they were probably all stock...

I have lost to similiar cars. I just forget to list them...lol I mean come on, honestly, who wants to brag about losing. I got spanked by a modded 02ish mustang GT... I got never got to race an rsx type s, but my friend had his out the track and it was running consistently a few tenths faster than me. we never got lined up tho.

Don't forget weight has alot to do with it. If I know I'm gonna race someone I will make sure everything unneccesary is out of the car.

I have already beaten people only to have them call me a liar and stuff because they thought I had either nitrous or a turbo or something!!!...lol I think it hilarious.

I don't race much nemore though.

On the other note... I thing anything in the 13's and maybe 14's is fast. 15's=decent, 16=average

^ Oh ok you have some good points there. For example you could have a 500hp car and not know how to drive it so it is pretty much pointless to try to race it then.

Yeah weight is a huge factor in it actually good point.

That isnt entirely true, It has plenty of power on the lower end, though the numbers dont read it. And even if we are talking 1/4 times the rx-8 still does it in 14.5, best ive seen was 14.2, so it isnt a push over, on top of that would you know it the 8 you raced was a manual or an auto cause the difference between them is 5 cars.

Re: wow, damn cavaliers

Well, I guess you would know more than me because it looks like you own one. Rx8's are very sexy lookin cars might I add...

Wow! 14.5 I didn't know they were that quick. Is that stock? If so, it sounds like I might have been racing an auto because I was definetly walking away from him.

The mustangs were both 5 speeds, I talked to them afterwards. my other friend has an auto conv. and I was really surprised how much of a difference it made.

yeah that's stock with an RX-8 and everyone who gets that time, or around it says that it is capable of more but they dont want to push the car since they arent made for drag. the 8's auto suffers cause they are different engines, the manual is a 6 ported engine and the auto is 4 ported and not to mention because of the torque converter the auto cant go to 10k rpms. The auto can only go to 8.5k I believe.

As for the mustangs, I do know that the Manual is significantly faster, I dont know why though, maybe you should ask a mustang guy.

Re: wow, damn cavaliers

Correct me if I am wrong, but the RX-8's don't see a 14.5 until they have some break in time correct? Before (I think 40k miles) they usually run between a 15-16 1/4.

The older model yes but many people with '05's were able to do it after the 10k mark. And after that they seem to keep getting better, to a point of course.

also mine is an 06 and I havent seen one of those go through a 1/4 yet, someone mentioned that they can do close to a 14.5 it was along the lines of a 14.6xx and that was with less than 10k miles so I dont know, and I'm not willing to test it right now either.

Re: wow, damn cavaliers

all i want to say is that 14's aren't fast, and i do not claim that either of my cars are fast. now 14's for an unmodified sedan is pretty good, hint hint gotian but it's not going to be "respected" on the streets nor is it going to be unbeatable by a majority of the serious street racers (not the people that "think" they are street racers")

now, everything is relative to the point that, most people haven't ridden in a 12xx car or a 11xx car and are only used to what their cars can do and judge those times based on that. well simply put, after driving a 15 sec car forever, 15's are pretty damn slow, and 14 seconds cars aren't that much better. Everytime i hit the gas i really just want something to kick in and launch the damn thing down the road at 100+ mph.

now, if you've been driving an 11sec car down the road everyday, it may get humdrum, but quite honestly it is one of the fastest cars on the road at any given time. hence why it would be considered "fast".

if everyone owned 11 sec. cars then 8's would be fast, or 7's.

being "faster" is not the same thing as fast, and that is another thing people don't realize. Considering that both of Gotians cars are faster than mine, doesn't make his cars "fast" per say, it just means that heads up, i might scare him into modifying that rx8 real nicely

I'm not into american muscle as much as some people i know, and i would like a more balanced car. i've been considering someday getting a 240 that is solidly in the 13's and modding the suspension to the point that if i turn one direction i'm back going straight in half the time of normal cars.

but that is a pipe dream

the end
