The end of the air intake was down right above the bumper.
The bumper was curved and low to the road.
When you drove threw water over the road the water would roll up over the bumper and go right into the air intake and good by engine.
I repaced the engine on a few that got water logged and you could smell the fish or fishie water in one.
Some to keep in mind when you are rerouting the air intake.
Keep it up as high as you can so the engine will only suck cold air instead of cold water.

Where it mounts the the throttle body is most likely around a 90 degree bend, yes.

Re: intake question homemade

its not that it isnt safe, but ur truck is a 4.3 meaning the throttle body is on top.i dont think thats gonna fit under the hood is it?not only that but u gott actually attach it to the throttle body somehow, which i find isnt always that easy.the tb's are usually a one off size, not exactly 4 inch diameter inside or out

Re: intake question homemade

I could use hose claps for the bottom or use a rubber pipe connection with hose claps on both ends and I think it does fit and yes the tb is on top

Re: intake question homemade

I personally would not use that. No offense, but it doesn't look that great
