Re: WIP:Cory Mac's FRAM AirHog TF dragster

While I was at the lathe working on some other projects, I turned a new puke tank. Most modern TF cars have huge spun aluminum tanks mounted on top of another box mounted behind the engine. I turned this from some 1/2 round T6 stock.

I also made some progress on the headers last night. I cleaned up the mold lines, drilled for sensor lines, hollowed out the tips, and then added the MCG PE brace to each side. These were then shot with several shades of Alclads I mixed up. I went ahead and mounted them to the engine, now I can begin to add the braces and sensor lines.

Re: WIP:Cory Mac's FRAM AirHog TF dragster

Hello.

I'm not familiar with this kind of machine (not so common here in Europe!).

WOuld you have a picture of the actual engine? Could yuo also explain the purpose of the blower hold on purpose? Is it to maintain the blower in place if the bolts break under pressure?

Fantastic job, with great atention to details!

Looking for your updates.

Olivier

Re: WIP:Cory Mac's FRAM AirHog TF dragster

I scratchbuilt a new "Bertha" fuel pump, painted it with Alcad aluminum, then Alclad clear Amber. The black sections are decal. I mounted to the front of the motor, and started hooking up and adding fuel lines.

The headers also got a lot of attention. I added the eight sensor lines, control boxes and wiring. Also added the four braces and tabs.

And finally, a few shots of what it will hopefully be like in a few days, when the motor is installed for good.

I cant believe how far you are taking this, just when I accept what my eyes are telling me, you add more. What an amazing project.

Re: WIP:Cory Mac's FRAM AirHog TF dragster

This should be the last updat e before this baby is finally done!! I had a good day at the bench and almost got the Fram machine wrapped up.

I installed the engine for good, hooked up all the fuel lines, MSD lines, and oil lines up to the remote filter. I turned a new airbottle from aluminum and added a PE knob. I built up a new set of timers and an electrical branch off and added them to a new alumium bulkhead.

I scratch built a new box to mount the puke tank on, and hooked it up to the tops of the valve covers on each side. I also scratchbuilt a new clutch box, covered it with Studio 27 CF decal, then coated it with Future. It was mounted to the frame and wired up.

Out back, the chutes were added, and detailed. I used some black and gray oil paints to highlight the fabric a bit.

The interior is also finished up. I sanded the kit belts off the seat, decaled it with Studio 27 CF decal, then added a new set of belts. I added fuel pump and parachute levers and cables. I also scratchbuilt a new dash/tach. I added Sakatsu toggle switches, and then wired it up with DM wire. I also scratchbuilt a pair of head rests and mounted them to the cage.

Finally, the front and rear wings were added.

Simply amazing. What are your plans for this model? Will you enter it in a contest?

Really, really nice work. Thanks for sharing it with us. Do you have links to other builds of yours?
